“Tax The Rich” Thrown Out In Socialist France – “It’s Unfair”

France’s Socialist President, Francois Hollande, had his hat handed to him when France’s highest court revoked his 75% tax on the rich, saying that “it’s unfair.” The court took issue with the way it discriminated between households of one versus two earners.
France’s budget deficit is approximately 85 billion euro and the tax would have brought in only about 200 million euro… a tiny drop in a very large bucket. But as we know, bloated Socialist governments know no bounds when it comes to satisfying their insatiable greed and intense desire to enslave the people.
Unemployment in France has risen for 19 straight months and embattled President Hollande’s popularity continues its downward spiral. Why? The people are feeling the effects of his Socialist policies.
France’s continuous rise in unemployment was predictable; the laws of economics are well-known.
Socialist thinkers, however, do not have the mental ability to understand economics. They are takers and all they understand is greed and power. Take from those who have until they have no more. That’s it.
With Socialism, the goal is always to impoverish the people and place all the wealth in the hands of the rulers – the government – the elites. Destruction of the “middle class” is essential for Socialism to flourish.
Isn’t it ironic that Hollande’s “tax the rich” campaign platform was enough to get him elected, but now the people are feeling the effects and they are unhappy. France, like America, obviously doesn’t teach economics in public/government schools.
But it’s more than that… so many people inexplicably think that taxing the rich means more money for them or more money for the poor. This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Just as France’s “tax the rich” scheme has caused sustained job losses among the people, the same has played out in other Socialist countries like Italy, Greece and Britain.
While more people are plunged into poverty, the bloated, life-sucking thieves in government live in the lap of luxury and enrich themselves and their pals by taking more and more from the people.
This is playing out in America as well.
Taking from the “rich” enables governments to slide the scale downward. Today, $250,000 is considered rich (try living in New York or California on that) and tomorrow, $150,000 will be. The scale will continue downward until YOU are considered rich.
That’s right… they’re coming after YOU, as all Socialist governments do. After all, you didn’t build that. It belongs to the government and their objective is to take it from you.
Meanwhile, the people who inexplicably and mistakenly think that taxing the rich gives more to ‘the people,’ refuse to actually look at the increased poverty it brings. As they regurgitate the catchy phrases the media and politicians feed them about ‘leveling the playing field’ and ‘fairness,’ they won’t even look at where people’s hard-earned money is really going. Instead, like mindless minions, they want more taken from them – the people – to feed the government Leviathan.
The government itself and everything they spend money on comes from us, the 53% of Americans who pay taxes. The mindless minions who regurgitate the “tax the rich” mantra need to explain how items such as these benefit the people:
You can find your own examples of outrageous government spending that does nothing to help us, the people. There are plenty to choose from.
For the four items delineated above, there’s about half a trillion dollars alone. How do any of these things help the people? Since Obamacare is included, some readers might be stuck on that one. Let’s explain.
One may think Obamacare helps the people, but they fail to understand that it will hurt everyone; especially low-income families and seniors.
If the complaint before Obamacare was the high cost of healthcare, the cost has now increased tremendously, so how does that help anyone? Have your premiums increased? Is your old plan no longer available?
Did you know that low-income families used to receive free medical care at any hospital they chose to go to? As mandated by the government long ago, no one could be turned away. Now these families will be pursued by government and required to pay for health coverage. What do you think all the extra IRS employees are for?
As for seniors, ‘take a pill’ as Obama famously said. $1.1 trillion is being stolen from Medicare – which all taxpayers pay into – to feed the Obamacare government beast. Even a fifth grader can figure out that this will greatly diminish care for our seniors. Why else do they need the ‘end of life’ counseling every year and why is there now a committee of 15 unelected government bureaucrats who decide what care people will and won’t receive?
Educate yourself on the “Complete Lives” system. It’s all there.
Don’t forget, Obamacare merely mandates that everyone purchase health coverage. It is health coverage, not care, for all. The transformation of America’s free-market healthcare system into a government-controlled socialized healthcare system will severely degrade health care, just as it has in other countries.
Why do you think foreign leaders and people with financial means have come to America for serious treatment? In a few short years, there will be no where for them, or us, to go.
Again, the objective of Socialism is to take from the people to redistribute to themselves and increase their power over the people. Taking over our healthcare system increases the number of people they can take from and have power over; it was never about giving “healthcare for all.” It’s about forcing everyone but themselves to pony up for coverage. But I digress…
Greed and power are must-haves among Socialist rulers/elites. France’s President Hollande is one example among many.
Regarding the mindless “tax the rich” minions, they clearly have not thought it through, they have not educated themselves, they know little about history and they cast their votes for these oppressors. All the while, they unwittingly call for these elites to be further enriched off the backs of the people.
Will these mindless minions think it through before it’s at their doorstep and they are added to the ranks of the poor? Doubt it.

Cardenal Jaime Ortega Alamino

Potential heir to $300 million Clark copper fortune found dead, homeless under bridge

Huguette Clark
A long-lost relative of the reclusive heiress Huguette Clark, who could have inherited $19 million of her $300 million fortune, has been found dead under a Union Pacific Railroad overpass in Wyoming.
Children sledding found the body of Timothy Henry Gray, 60, Thursday afternoon in Evanston, a small mining town in southwestern Wyoming near the Utah border. The coroner said it appeared he died of hypothermia. The low temperature that day was 10 degrees, and had hit zero in the previous week. Lt. Bill Jeffers of the Evanston Police Department said there was no evidence of foul play, and Gray was wearing a light jacket. Gray's siblings said they hadn't heard from him since their mother's funeral in 1990, when he disappeared without a word.  It wasn't clear whether Gray was living under the overpass, where transients have been known to camp.

Occupy Wall Street lawyer in dash for Sandy Hook cash

Irving Pinsky/ dailymail.co.uk
An attorney seeking to sue Connecticut for $100 million on behalf of a Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting survivor who heard Adam Lanza’s murderous rampage on a loudspeaker also serves as the official lawyer for Occupy New Haven, WND has found.
New Haven lawyer Irving Pinsky told the Associated Press today he is filing the claim against the state on behalf of a 6-year-old female student, nicknamed “Jill Doe,” claiming the student suffered emotional and psychological trauma.
“As a consequence, the claimant-minor child has sustained emotional and psychological trauma and injury, the nature and extent of which are yet to be determined,” the claim says.
“She was in her classroom, and over the loudspeaker came the horrific confrontation between the fellow who shot everybody and other people,” Pinsky said. “Her friends were killed. That’s pretty traumatic.”
WND has found that Pinsky doubles as the attorney for Occupy New Haven. He has represented the anti-Capitalism movement in scores of cases against the city.
For example, this past March, Pinsky helped Occupy defy city demands to vacate a park where they had built a tent city. Pinsky told the local media Occupy protesters wouldn’t leave since city officials hadn’t met Occupy demands for improved school funding and low-income housing, longer library hours and an end to foreclosures.
Eventually, Pinsky’s legal aid helped the Occupy movement win an extra few weeks in the park.
Pinsky has also faced disciplinary action in his legal career. He had his license suspended in 2003 and was reprimanded in 1989.
In his suit over the Sandy Hook massacre, Pinsky is alleging the city is to blame for not providing adequate security at the school. The lawsuit also complains the child heard “conversations, gunfire and screaming” over the school’s intercom after someone in the office switched on the system.
That claim may draw the ire of other survivors, since the trauma broadcast over the intercom reportedly helped to warn other classrooms about what was going on, prompting teachers to lock doors and help students take cover.
This is not the first time Pinsky has represented a claimant in a $100-million lawsuit some may find questionable.
In 1991, Pinsky represented Miss Black America in a $100-million suit against boxer Mike Tyson, alleging Tyson had placed a hand on her buttocks while they were posing for photographers.

Guess what 'fossil' fuels don't come from

dailygalaxy.com
NEW YORK – Astronomers are providing new evidence hydrocarbons are not a biological product but instead are created by inorganic chemical processes that occur on a continuing basis.
Scientists working at the Max Planck Institute in Germany, using the 30-meter telescope of the Institute for Radio Astronomy, have discovered a vast cloud of hydrocarbons within the Horse Head Nebula galaxy in the Orion constellation, according to reports published in The Daily Galaxy and in the oil industry publication Rigzone.
“We observed the operation of a natural refinery of gigantic size,” astronomer Jerome Pety told The Daily Galaxy.
Astronomer Viviana Guzman explained to both publications that the nebula contains 200 times more hydrocarbons than the total amount of water on Earth.
In 1951, Russian scientist and professor Nikolai Kudryavtsev articulated what today has become known as the Russian-Ukranian theory of deep, abiotic petroleum origins.
Essentially, the theory rejects the contention that oil was formed from the remains of ancient plant and animal life that died millions of years ago.
Thomas Gold was a professor of astronomy who taught at Cornell University and died in 2004, at 84 years old. In 1998, when he was 78, he published a controversial book , “The Deep Hot Biosphere: The Myth of Fossil Fuels.”
As an astronomer, Gold was well aware that hydrocarbons are abundant in the universe. Since the early part of the 20th century, spectrographs that analyze wavelengths have permitted astronomers to determine with certainty that carbon is the fourth most abundant element in the universe, right after hydrogen, helium and oxygen.
Furthermore, Gold wrote, among planetary bodies, “carbon is found mostly in compounds with hydrogen – hydrocarbons – which, at different temperatures and pressures, may be gaseous, liquid, or solid.”
“Astronomical techniques have thus produced clear and indisputable evidence that hydrocarbons are major constituents of bodies great and small within our solar system (and beyond),” he said.
In other words, hydrocarbons are not “organic chemicals” resulting from life processes on earth, as is commonly assumed by proponents of the fossil fuel theory.
Rather, Gold argued, hydrogen is a fundamental element readily available in the universe that combines with carbon to form hydrocarbons, whether life is present or not.
What astronomers have known about the abundance of hydrocarbons in the universe, however, has not passed on to geologists. In contrast, geologists think of hydrocarbons as forming only through the activity of life – either in building life through photosynthesis or when forms of life die.
Abiotic oil found on Titan
NASA scientists, in conjunction with the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency, have determined from a Cassini-Huygens probe that landed in 2005 on Titan, the giant moon of Saturn, that Titan contains abundant methane.
“We have determined that Titan’s methane is not of biological origin, so it must be replenished by geological processes on Titan, perhaps venting from a supply in the interior that could have been trapped there as the moon formed,” Hasso Niemann of the Goddard Space Flight Center told reporters Nov. 30, 2005.
The Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer, or GCMS, an instrument that identifies different atmospheric constituents by their mass, provided measurements demonstrating the methane on Titan is composed of Carbon-13, the isotope of carbon associated with inorganic or abiotic origins, whereas living organisms are typically associated with Carbon-12.
Each Carbon-13 atom has an extra neutron in its nucleus, making Carbon-13 atoms slightly heavier than Carbon-12 atoms, permitting the GCMS to distinguish between methane isotopes with Carbon-12 and methane with Carbon-13 atoms.
Titan has hundreds of times more liquid hydrocarbons than all the known oil and natural gas reserves on Earth, according to a team of Johns Hopkins scientists reporting in February 2008 on their new findings from data collected from Cassini-Huygens probe radar data.
“Several hundred lakes or seas have been discovered, of which dozens are estimated to contain more hydrocarbon liquid than the entire known oil and gas reserves on Earth,” wrote lead scientist Ralph Lorenz of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md., in the Jan. 29, 2008, issue of the Geophysical Research Letters.
Lorenz also reported dark dunes running along the equator cover 20 percent of Titan’s surface, comprising a volume of hydrocarbon material several hundred times larger than Earth’s coal reserves.
“Titan is just covered in carbon-bearing material – it’s a giant factory of organic chemicals,” Lorenz wrote.

Obama Attorneys Endorse Judge's Santa Ruling: 'Court Has No Power To Conduct Hearing'

Attorneys for Barack Obama have endorsed a Florida judge’s ruling that cited the “Santa” decision from the fictional movie “Miracle on 34th Street.”

The actual dispute pending in court is over a challenge to Obama’s eligibility to be president and the plaintiff, Michael C. Voeltz, is a Democrat from Florida who demanding an evidentiary hearing which is allowed under state law.

Obama’s attorney, Florida Bar member Mark Herron, submitted a “response” to the hearing petition that the judge’s original decision to dismiss the case had been correct.

That decision, from Kevin Carroll of the Florida circuit court for Leon County, dismissed the Voeltz case even though he had raised the issue of Obama’s qualifications under a state law that allows voters to challenge candidates’ eligibility.

Carroll, who had given the plaintiffs until Dec. 23 to respond to Obama’s motion to dismiss the case, changed his mind and abruptly ordered the case dismissed several days before the deadline.

He explained that the fact the government says Obama is qualified to be president is more than enough for him.

The Post-Western World without the United States as the Economic Superpower

Excerpted from Canada Free Press:
Christian and American customs around the country are under attack by atheist minorities and groups with anti-American agendas. Institutions, freedoms, and traditions that we had previously taken for granted are threatened. The church, turning left and complicit, clamoring for new membership and revenues, has chosen to remain silent in defense of life, liberty and Americanism. Conservative groups have abandoned their principles in order to be popular and liked. The future of our country in general is irrelevant to most who selfishly live in the bubble of the moment.
The majority of Americans are either asleep, lulled into a false sense of temporary well-being and abundance, or have resigned themselves to their fate because it is hard to have spring with one flower. Those who are keenly aware of negative transformations and have seen this movie play before are shaking their heads in disbelief and speaking in the wind like mythological Cassandras.
Few seem to worry about future generations, except in empty posturing rhetoric. Lost in egotistical self-indulgence, our collective elected officials continue to make decisions predicated on the Me Generation. The Lost Generation must fend for itself when the time comes.
Since the low-information reality show spectator voters have elected the most “transformational president” in history to a second term of lavish spending and punitive socialist redistribution of wealth, if the U.N. Agenda 21 and the ginned-up class warfare succeed, the thinking Americans will watch powerlessly as the U.S. will no longer be a Constitutional Republic and a superpower, becoming a second rate nation in the dustbin of declined and fallen “empires.”
What will the world be like and what kind of country will America be in the next 15-20 years at the rate of the fast-paced involuntary and hopeless change that is aimed at pushing us “forward” to disaster?
The “unprecedented change” will drive “60 percent of the world’s population to mega-cities by 2030, and competition for food, water, and energy resources could increase the possibilities of violent conflict.” (Frederick Kempe, President and CEO, Atlantic Council)
“The United States must urgently address its domestic economic and political dysfunctions.” The Atlantic Council, a think tank, wrote a 57-page report, “Envisioning 2030: U.S. Leadership in a Post-Western World,” to “help prepare the Obama Administration and its global partners for unprecedented change.”
The report predicts a future of “vast economic and political volatility, environmental catastrophe, and conflicting, inward-looking nationalisms that would be unlike any period that the United States has seen before.” “President Obama will be setting the tone and direction for U.S. policy in a post-Western world.” (Atlantic Council, Executive Summary, p. 5)
As the powers that be are actively and speedily working to affect this outcome, the global order champions “predict” that wealth will shift from west to east. Learning Mandarin may be a good idea – China is recognized in the report as “the most crucial single factor that will shape the international system in 2030.” (Atlantic Council, Executive Summary, p. 7)
Is a post-western world a world without the United States as the economic superpower, benefactor, and military protector of the globe’s ungrateful nations? The 20th century economic guru of the liberal elites, John Maynard Keynes, said in 1937, “…the idea of the future being different from the present is so repugnant to our conventional modes of thought and behavior that we, most of us, offer a great resistance to acting on it in practice.”
The National Intelligence Council discusses in its December 2012 166-page paper, “Global Trends 2030: Alternative Worlds,” the mega trends, game-changers, Black Swans, and potential worlds in the next 15-20 years.
Food, water, and energy sources will become problematic due to growing populations in emerging markets and policies adopted at home that favor expensive green energy, wind, solar, and biofuels, preventing exploration of existing cheaper domestic resources of fossil fueled energy. As one commodity becomes an issue, it will affect the supply and demand of the others. Water needs will grow by a predicted 40 percent.

Hunger Striker Demands Immediate Release of Alan Gross & Eduardo Arocena

Gualdo Hidalgo-teresadovalpage.com
EINPresswire.com/ Gualdo Hidalgo, Latin Heritage Foundation Executive Director and former Cuban political prisoner, starts a hunger strike demanding from United States and Cuba governments the immediate release of Eduardo Arocena and Alan Gross.
Alan Phillip Gross is an American international development expert who was working in Cuba as a U.S. government subcontractor for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) when he was arrested and ultimately convicted for acts against the independence or the territorial integrity of the state.
He was prosecuted in 2011 after being accused of crimes against the Cuban state. Gross alleges he was bringing satellite phones and computer equipment to members of Cuba's Jewish community. It was claimed Gross's objective involved setting up Cuban dissidents with satellite communication systems that would work through satellite phones and laptops. He is serving a 15-year prison sentence in Cuba.
Eduardo Arocena was convicted of serious crimes against federal laws of the United States through the use of violence, including the assassination of Cuban diplomat Felix Garcia Rodriguez. However, nearly thirty years in prison met by Eduardo Arocena, according to international standards of detention, including Cuba, are considered sufficient for the release of a convict. Since 1959, Cuba has imprisoned many of the anti-Castro fighters for acts considered by Cuba as terrorists with actions that caused death of civilians. Virtually all those convicted has been freed by Cuba after serving a prison term shorter than the one served by Eduardo Arocena.
The U.S. government should take into consideration the long prison terms served by Eduardo Arocena and order his release immediate.
Cuba's government should order the immediate release of Alan Gross for reunification with his wife, daughters and other family, while restoring his health problems.
The circumstances of the contemporary world should prevail in both governments, both of Washington such as Havana, and help alleviate the suffering of the prisoners and their families.
Gualdo Hidalgo, former Cuban political prisoner and Latin Heritage Foundation publisher, will keep the hunger strike until both governments agree to release Eduardo Arocena y Alan Gross.

Is the Canadian economy in trouble?

By Kevin Press, BrighterLife.ca
Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney [l] & Finance Minister Jim Flaherty
“Conditions in the international financial system are fragile.” That is how the Bank of Canada chose to begin its latest Financial System Review, released on June 14. The report goes on to note that our domestic financial system “continues to be robust.” But that good news comes despite a host of risks to the system and to the Canadian economy, including the eurozone sovereign debt crisis, a slowdown in other advanced economies and potential trouble in the Canadian residential real estate market. Consistent with December’s report, the Bank says the risks facing the Canadian financial system are “high.”
I was in to see Sadiq Adatia, chief investment officer of Sun Life Global Investments, last week so I asked him what he thinks about the outlook for Canada. He wasn’t optimistic. After talking about his confidence in the U.S. recovery, he told me: “Canada is turning a corner too, but in the opposite direction.” We may not see gross domestic product growth above 2% this year.
Adatia sees five problems:
  • Household debt. “We’ve had a great run in our markets, fuelled by consumer spending,” Adatia told me. “Consumers have added a ton of debt to their balance sheets.” Indeed, we learned on June 15 that Canada’s household credit market debt (consumer credit, mortgage and loan debt), measured as a percentage of personal disposable income reached 152% in the first quarter of this year. That’s a new record. Actual borrowing has slowed, but income has too. According to the Bank of Montreal (BMO), the percentage of Canadian households with debt-service ratios above 40% of income – a level considered to be vulnerable by lenders – has risen over 6%. That’s “slightly above the past decade norm,” reports BMO.
  • Housing prices. Adatia thinks a double-digit drop in prices is possible. “We think there’s going to be a pullback across the board,” he said. “Some regions may be hit harder than others, but I think a 5%-to-15% drop is definitely in the cards.” That may be a conservative call. Across Canada, home prices are up 12% relative to where they were before the most recent recession.
  • Global factors. No surprise here: There’s trouble in Europe, a slowdown in China and the U.S. recovery (while it gives Adatia reason for optimism) remains vulnerable to global economic factors. These are all potential threats to Canada. By the way, Adatia does not believe there will be a hard landing in China.
  • Rising interest rates (eventually). Adatia doesn’t expect the Bank of Canada to move on rates this year, but they may start to come up in 2013: “Until we see a better resolution in the eurozone and a stronger U.S. economy, the Bank of Canada is not going to jump out too far ahead, particularly given that the U.S. Federal Reserve has already said it’s not going to raise rates until 2014.” When it happens, higher rates will dampen spending by a lot of highly indebted households.
  • Unemployment. “We’re probably going to see unemployment move up,” said Adatia. “I’m not convinced the employment picture is really as strong as it looks right now.” The four points listed above could each contribute to job losses.
Are we headed down a path similar to the one Americans took toward the end of the last decade? “These are the same things that were going on in the U.S. economy before it faltered,” Adatia told me. “We’re probably where the U.S. was a few years back.” Meanwhile, the U.S. housing market is showing signs of stabilization and according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Americans have slashed their debt by about $100 billion since the fourth quarter of 2011.

A Cuban modern witch wants to be a "cuentapropista"

At first sight, Mayra is a typical Cuban housewife, carrying out her daily chores as so many others. But she has another job apart from those housekeeping tasks, and when she does that she looks like anything but a housewife.
In Cuba, after the last Communist Party Congress, the government published a list of 181 private jobs and commercial activities that Cubans are now able to engage in, and pay taxes on the income generated from them.
Mayra told me, “I went through the list of 181 jobs and I couldn’t find mine. I am a freelance witch, spiritualist and fortune teller, so for the moment I cannot apply for a license to legally do my job.”
Mayra’s transformation from housewife to witch is dramatic. Others had spoken to me about her but I didn’t believe them, so I had to see for myself. I’m not particularly religious myself, but after speaking to her and insisting, she invited me to a ceremony in which her husband acted as her assistant.
I visited her home several times but her clients were not particularly interested in having a
photographer there. My curiosity for the subject started to increase so I had to be patient. Usually
people involved in the Afro-Cuban Santeria religion are very camera shy and do not allow their rites to be documented. Because of that I feel privileged to have gained access to document some of these interesting occurrences.
There was a regular trail of different clients seeking help from Mayra, usually middle-aged men and women. I could hear chanting and cries from outside the “chamber,” the room of the house where the ceremonies are practiced. My curiosity kept growing.
One woman troubled by a family affair sought assistance and advice from Mayra, and a religious ritual was to be done in Mayra’s home. The woman was alright with having some pictures taken.
Engulfed in thick cigar smoke, eyes shining, Mayra is a witch – a modern witch. She falls into a trance and shakes, talks about the dead, the spirits, the future, the past, the need for ceremonies, and practices sophisticated witchcraft involving animals, coconuts, plants, flowers and an array of other items.
One day I was at Mayra’s place and Dayana, an 18-year-old Cuban model, showed up. Dayana was having some troubles at home so her mother decided to take her along for a cleansing from bad spirits, the “rompimiento” ceremony. The ceremony consists of several religious rites and prayers involving coconuts, cigar smoke, alcohol, scents and other artifacts. The person must have his or her clothes ripped off in a ceremony to expel bad spirits from the person.
The momentum of the ceremony kept growing, Mayra was smoking cigars, the room was full of smoke, and there was a strong smell of scents as Mayra seemed to fall into a trance. At one point she had to be held up by her husband, and did go into a trance. She asked Dayana to follow her to the back of the house near her shrine, and started ripping off her clothes frantically while speaking in an African language.
Several days later Mayra went to the seaside to finalize the work she had done for Dayana. There on a beach she performed a simple ceremony beside the water, reciting African language phrases sentences pouring a liquid from a jar into the sea.
After a few days I asked Mayra how her client Dayana was doing. She had received the news that Dayana’s troubles had ended and that she was on a tour of Cuba working as a model and doing very well.
Afro-Cuban religion mixes Catholicism with ancient African beliefs originally brought to Cuba by slaves. Thousands of people practice the Santeria religion throughout Cuba.
Mayra charges 240 Cuban pesos, around ten dollars, for a full ceremony and around 100
pesos for consultations. But she says, “I many times don’t charge anything if the person needs my help and does not have money. Too many people involved in Santeria are just in it for the money and have made it a prosperous business.”
I answered Mayra, ‘Don’t worry it reminds me of the same happening in other religions. None is spared.”

Along the Chinese border, defectors say North Korean province is quietly liberalizing

On the northeastern fringe of North Korea, a place so remote that Korea’s medieval monarchy once exiled out-of-favor officials there, a province now known as North Hamgyung may be experiencing a degree of relative wealth and freedom unknown in the rest of the country.
To be clear, the operative word here is “relative”; the accounts make clear that North Hamgyung is still primarily defined by North Korea’s poverty and totalitarian rule. But, based on defector accounts gathered by North Korea-focused news site New Focus International, the province appears to be experiencing an upsurge in wealth and personal freedoms. “North Hamgyung province seems a much better place for life than the city of Pyongyang,” one defector said, a surprising statement given that the government has long cultivated capital city Pyongyang as the height of wealth and development.
New Focus International says that one defector was “shocked” on seeing the relative wealth and prosperity in North Hamgyung. Another said that “as long as you have the trust of relevant authorities, you can lead a decent life,” relatively unfettered, whereas life in Pyongyang requires constant vigilance from watchful state security.
Residents in North Hamgyung are said to have regular access to rice. This might seem like a small thing, but it’s difficult to overstate the cultural value of rice in Korea, its importance to families, and the pain many North Koreans feel at being deprived of this cherished staple. In Pyongyang, a rice allowance is seen as a reward for status and loyalty, as well as a sign of the city’s stature. That North Hamgyung residents would have rice, and acquire it by means other than as a reward from the government, would be a big deal to North Koreans. Residents can even buy bread imported from nearby China. It’s no wonder that, according to New Focus International, some North Koreans talk about “defecting” from their home province to North Hamgyung.
The Onsong market in North Hamgyong/ english.chosun.com
Assuming that these defector accounts are true, the changes would seem to be a result of North Korea’s increasingly porous border with China. North Korea began allowing freer cross-border travel several years ago because it needed the black market to bring in food and keep the economy from collapsing. China still regularly imprisons and deports any defectors it finds, but the border is left conspicuously more open than North Korea’s other borders, allowing some North Koreans to travel back and forth. This trade has brought with it, among other things, bootleg video CD movies that allow North Koreans a glimpse into the outside world, which it turns out is not as terrible as their government tells them.
Is North Hamgyung’s improved status just a temporary blip until Pyongyang reverses the changes, a possible model for North Korea’s future, or a unique system that can only work here? The region is an unusual mix of internal exiles (people who said or did the wrong thing and were sent away to this remote province) and loyal political elites, according to Barbara Demick’s excellent book, Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives of North Koreans.

December 27, 2012: The Day Freedom Died in America

canadafreepress/ Judy McLeod
It was five months before the November 6 presidential election when CFP columnist, Northeast Intelligence Network’s Doug Hagmann courageously tried to warn Americans of a deliberate government planned Civil War in an article titled,  “The planned re-election of Obama, revolutionary style”.
“According to my source, there is talk among the highest levels of the uppermost echelon of the Department of Homeland Security, which he describes as effectively under the control of Barack Hussein Obama. During this call, he said that the DHS is actively preparing for massive social unrest inside the United States. He then corrected himself, stating that “a civil war” is the more appropriate term. Certain elements of the government are not only expecting and preparing for it, they are actually facilitating it,” stated my source. (CFP May 8, 2012)
Hagmann’s article went viral but as we all know last month saw the reelection of the man who would bring America into another Civil War.
Straight out of the Hagmann article came a warning that talk among the highest levels of the uppermost echelon of the Department of Homeland Security pointed to a coming “civil war”.
That Civil War was catapaulted to lead story position on the Drudge Report today. http://www.investmentcontrarians.com/advise/ponzi-scheme/?sb=7SHICC&subid=co469&affid=griccs
Just two days after Christmas, the American Senate is coming for your guns, in a move that will toss the Founding Fathers’ cherished Second Amendment into the dustbin of history.
“This is not a drill.  It’s the real thing,” Hagmann told Alex Jones on his radio show today.
Darkness is descending on America.
Historians will record December 27, 2012 as the day freedom died in ‘The Land of the Free’.

The Communist in the Room

I personally abhor the term “gun control” because, like so many other idioms advanced by political operatives, it frames the discussion in peremptory language which maintains a presupposition; here, that controlling guns is necessary, further, that it is something the government is legitimately empowered to do. Political operatives have necessarily become experts in this word play, like the left using terms such as “homophobia” to place the onus of presumed dysfunction upon the “homophobe” rather than the homosexual.

(el-alto-sueño);

le pidieron las piernas

duras y nudosas

¿No me envidias?”.

Has sufrido mucho, hombre, entra, te has ganado el cielo.
