Obama Defends Islam, Smacks Israel, American Racism at UN

On Wednesday, on the first anniversary of President Barack Obama’s speech to the United Nations in which he called for ouster of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, Obama attempted to rally support for his airstrikes against Assad’s terrorist opposition. Taking on issues ranging from Iran to Russia, from Ukraine to Syria, from global warming to Ebola, Obama pledged to utilize American might in service to the United Nations, speaking grandly of the beauty and power of the world’s least effective and most morally bankrupt international institution.

Obama opened with a Dickensian world of Manichean opposites:

Mr. President, Mr. Secretary General, fellow delegates, ladies and gentlemen: we come together at a crossroads between war and peace; between disorder and integration; between fear and hope.

He then offered delegates a choice between paper and plastic.

Actually, he stated that the world has never been better off, praising the increase of member states at the UN and the decrease in poverty (neglecting, of course, that that decrease in poverty is a direct result of the rise of global capitalism), as well as the iPhone. “I often tell young people in the United States that this is the best time in human history to be born, for you are more likely than ever before to be literate, to be healthy, and to be free to pursue your dreams,” Obama said, apparently forgetting the last two decades of human history.

But, said Obama, there are a few problems with which we have to contend: Ebola, Russian aggression, “brutality of terrorists” in Syria and Iraq. And those problems, Obama continued, are “symptoms of a broader problem – the failure of our international system to keep pace with an interconnected world.” Incredibly enough, the rise of disease, Obama believes, is because we haven’t invested enough in the United Nations, not because incompetent regimes upheld by the UN have failed their people. In amazingly hypocritical fashion, Obama – a man elected on the basis of his undercutting of George W. Bush’s Iraq war, a war based almost entirely on enforcement of UN resolutions -- said that terrorism has flourished because “we have failed to enforce international norms when it’s inconvenient to do so.”

Obama said America chooses “hope over fear.”

According to Obama, that choice entails standing up to Russia – presumably, by doing nothing. Obama stated that Russia’s worldview was that “might makes right,” that their vision was of a “world in which one nation’s borders can be redrawn by another, and civilized people are not allowed to recover the remains of their loved ones because of the truth that might be revealed.” Obama then contrasted that vision with America’s:

America stands for something different. We believe that right makes might – that bigger nations should not be able to bully smaller ones; that people should be able to choose their own future.

Right, of course, does not make might. To believe in that vision is idiotic. Right must build might in order to enforce right. But Obama’s unceasing belief in the power of his own verbiage means that he thinks he can simply talk Russia into backing off:

We call upon others to join us on the right side of history – for while small gains can be won at the barrel of a gun, they will ultimately be turned back if enough voices support the freedom of nations and peoples to make their own decisions.

Obama went on to suggest that Russia should use “the path of diplomacy and peace,” citing our signing of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which Russia has been routinely cheating. “That’s the kind of cooperation we are prepared to pursue again,” Obama said.

To which Vladimir Putin has formally responded: “ROFLMAO.”

Obama then turned to Ebola, stating that we’re sending troops to West Africa; he turned to Iran, where he said that “we can reach a solution that meets your energy needs while assuring the world that your program is peaceful.”

To which the mullahs have formally responded: “LOLWUT.”

Obama next addressed China’s aggression in the South China Sea, suggesting that America will insist “that all nations abide by the rules of the road, and resolve their territorial disputes peacefully, consistent with international law.”

To which China has formally responded: “SMDH.”

Then Obama went on his world-beating rant: he said that America would help “eradicate extreme poverty by 2030.” Not through capitalism, mind you: through foreign aid. He said that America would cut our own carbon emissions. He spouted trite slogans: “On issue after issue, we cannot rely on a rule-book written for a different century. If we lift our eyes beyond our borders – if we think globally and act cooperatively – we can shape the course of this century as our predecessors shaped the post-World War II age.”

Finally, he turned to the actual pressing issue of the day, Islamic terrorism. And he proceeded to explain that Islam is a religion of peace, no different from any other, and defend his reactive foreign policy as somehow proactive.

I have made it clear that America will not base our entire foreign policy on reacting to terrorism. Rather, we have waged a focused campaign against al Qaeda and its associated forces – taking out their leaders, and denying them the safe-havens they rely upon. At the same time, we have reaffirmed that the United States is not and never will be at war with Islam. Islam teaches peace. Muslims the world over aspire to live with dignity and a sense of justice. And when it comes to America and Islam, there is no us and them – there is only us, because millions of Muslim Americans are part of the fabric of our country.

He stated that America rejected “any suggestion of a clash of civilization.” Our opponents have not done the same, of course. But Obama stated that we could fight those “religiously motivated fanatics” – fanatics who have nothing to do with Islam, of course, even if they are universally Muslim – by providing food and water and jobs. Obama’s Marxist foreign policy has never wavered: he believes that inequality, not religious conflict, lies at the root of Islamist enmity for the West.

Obama laid out a four-pronged plan for fighting terrorism.

First, he said that ISIL had to be “degraded, and ultimately destroyed.” And once again, he emphasized that ISIL was not Islamic, and once again, he ruled out utilizing American troops.

Second, Obama said that Muslim communities had to “explicitly, forcefully, and consistently reject the ideology of al Qaeda and ISIL.” In the process, he praised Islam as part of a family of religions that “accommodate devout faith with a modern, multicultural world,” and added that “All religions have been attacked by extremists from within at some point, and all people of faith have a responsibility to lift up the value at the heart of all religion: do unto thy neighbor as you would have done unto you.”

His solution: talking about how ISIL and al Qaeda and Boko Haram are bad. Obama’s faith in words is absolutely unshakeable, as he made clear: “The ideology of ISIL or al Qaeda or Boko Haram will wilt and die if it is consistently exposed, confronted, and refuted in the light of day.” Hilariously, Obama explained that the UN Security Council would pass a resolution about combating “violent extremism,” but refused to explain what steps would actually be taken to do so, instead putting that discussion off for “next year.”

Third, Obama stated, sectarian conflict must end. How? Obama didn’t say. But he did pooh-pooh Muslim sectarian conflict as the religious norm:

There is nothing new about wars within religions. Christianity endured centuries of vicious sectarian conflict. Today, it is violence within Muslim communities that has become the source of so much human misery. It is time to acknowledge the destruction wrought by proxy wars and terror campaigns between Sunni and Shia across the Middle East. And it is time that political, civic and religious leaders reject sectarian strife. Let’s be clear: this is a fight that no one is winning.

Flipping through his trusty rhetorical playbook, Obama neglected any realistic solution to these sectarian conflicts, but did come up with this hackneyed chestnut:

Cynics may argue that such an outcome can never come to pass. But there is no other way for this madness to end – whether one year from now or ten. Indeed, it’s time for a broader negotiation in which major powers address their differences directly, honestly, and peacefully across the table from one another, rather than through gun-wielding proxies. I can promise you America will remain engaged in the region, and we are prepared to engage in that effort.

Fourth, Obama proposed, Arab and Muslim countries had to focus on “the extraordinary potential of their people – especially the youth.” He said that young Muslims “come from a great tradition that stands for education, not ignorance; innovation, not destruction; the dignity of life, not murder. Those who call you away from this path are betraying this tradition, not defending it.” That is the same message Obama and his minions have been braying for years at this point. No one, apparently, is listening.

And then Obama dropped the other shoe. After spending fifteen minutes blabbering about the glories and wonders of Islam, even as he decried extremism and sectarianism, Obama proceeded to blame Israel for conflict in the Middle East:

Leadership will also be necessary to address the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis. As bleak as the landscape appears, America will never give up the pursuit of peace. The situation in Iraq, Syria and Libya should cure anyone of the illusion that this conflict is the main source of problems in the region; for far too long, it has been used in part as a way to distract people from problems at home. And the violence engulfing the region today has made too many Israelis ready to abandon the hard work of peace. But let’s be clear: the status quo in the West Bank and Gaza is not sustainable. We cannot afford to turn away from this effort – not when rockets are fired at innocent Israelis, or the lives of so many Palestinian children are taken from us in Gaza. So long as I am President, we will stand up for the principle that Israelis, Palestinians, the region, and the world will be more just with two states living side by side, in peace and security.

The Israelis may not be the “main source of problems in the region,” but by pressuring Israel before the entire world just weeks after Hamas continuously fired rockets into Israel and shielded its own rockets with children, Obama demonstrates his distaste for the Jewish State, and his desire to cast them as a bleeding abscess leading to more violence. The moral equivalence here was stunning, unjustifiable, and purely disgusting.

As Obama moved toward his conclusion, he finally turned inward, apologizing for America yet again:

I realize that America’s critics will be quick to point out that at times we too have failed to live up to our ideals; that America has plenty of problems within our own borders. This is true. In a summer marked by instability in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri – where a young man was killed, and a community was divided. So yes, we have our own racial and ethnic tensions. And like every country, we continually wrestle with how to reconcile the vast changes wrought by globalization and greater diversity with the traditions that we hold dear.

Ferguson? Really? This is just the latest incident in which President Obama has condemned a private citizen before the world. In 2012, it was a filmmaker who guilty of provoking Islamic rage; today, it’s Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri, who has provoked America’s racial conflict. The United Nations has become a wonderful place for President Obama to convict American citizens.

Obama concluded with his campaign stump speech:

After nearly six years as President, I believe that this promise can help light the world. Because I’ve seen a longing for positive change – for peace and freedom and opportunity – in the eyes of young people I’ve met around the globe. They remind me that no matter who you are, or where you come from, or what you look like, or what God you pray to, or who you love, there is something fundamental that we all share.

America shares virtually nothing with the other member states at the UN. But President Obama shares a lot with them: a desire for America to take a secondary role in the world affairs, a desire for Israel to surrender in the face of its enemies, a desire for talk rather than action, a desire to demean the United States on the global stage.

America shares virtually nothing with the other member states at the UN. But President Obama shares a lot with them: a desire for America to take a secondary role in the world affairs, a desire for Israel to surrender in the face of its enemies, a desire for talk rather than action, a desire to demean the United States on the global stage.

Correo: Cubaball Tour

Cubaball XIII
www.prime-travel.com
February 23-March 2, 2015

This is the first call for registrations for Cubaball XIII. Designed for the serious baseball fan and scholar, Cubaball offers a unique travel experience that will bring you in close contact with the Cuban baseball past and present.

The 2015 tour is scheduled for February 23 to March 3 and will feature games of the 54th National Series. The tour dates coincide with the second half of the Cuban season in which only the top eight teams compete for playoff positions. A detailed itinerary awaits the release of the second-half schedule in January. We will travel to games from our Havana base and usually manage to see four or five games in different stadiums located in the western part of the island.

Tour highlights include:

•        Attendance at games of the 54th National Series

•        Meetings with players and league officials
•        Meetings with veteran players, including Luis Zayas, the sole surviving member of the famed Havana Sugar Kings living in Cuba
•        Visit to the baseball monuments in the Cristobal Colon necropolis in Havana.
•        Visit to Tropical Stadium, the home of the Cuban Winter League from 1930-1946
•        Tour of historic old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage site
•        Visit to the Finca Vigia,  Ernest Hemingway’s estate in San Francisco de Paula
•        A seminar with Sigfredo Barros, the baseball beat writer for Granma, the national newspaper of the Cuban   Communist Party.
•        Visit to Cruces and the grave of Martin Dihigo accompanied by Martin Jr., a former teammate of Pete Rose and Tony Perez in the Cincinnati Reds organization

Cubaball offers unique access to Cuban players. For the last three years, we have been joined by Enriquito Diaz, the all-time leader in games, at-bats, run, hits, triples, and stolen bases. He is the Pete Rose and Rickey Henderson of Cuba. If the schedule includes a game involving the Matanzas team, we will likely have a clubhouse meeting with Cuban National Team manager, Victor Mesa. Mesa was one of the great stars of the Cuban game. We have also enjoyed visits with friends, all-time HR king, Orestes Kindelan, and Omar Linares, considered by most the greatest player in the post-revolutionary history of Cuban baseball.

The tour is limited to 25 registrations and 20 registrations are required to make the tour viable. The tour price of $2899 (double occupancy) is considerably less than the price charged by companies offering cookie-cutter tours of Havana, Cienfuegos and Trinidad. A single occupancy is available for a $400 supplement. This is a land-only package that inlcudes accommodation, all breakfasts,, a few additional meals, admission to all scheduled itinerary events, transfers, transportation and the services of a bi-lingual guide. Not include are airfare, gratuities, beverages, and a  $30 USD exit permit. Americans are required to purchase insurance upon entry into Cuba for $3 per day.

Cubaball books four and five-star hotels in Havana and the best available hotels outside of Havana. Our Havana hotels include the Nacional, the Habana Libre (formerly the Havana Hilton) and the Parque Central.

This year’s tour will be licenced by the US Treasury Department.

Please let me know if your are interesting in joining the 2015 tour. I will advance tour plans if there is sufficient interest.  Send an e-mail to confirm your place and registration details will follow.

Hong Kong Vs Cuba. Capitalism Vs Socialism.

Cuba 1
hongkong_panorama_victoria_peak_2011
Let’s get started with a quick recap:
Capitalism. Under this system an organisation can only survive in the market by looking after the customer. By delivering goods or services of the right quality at the right time at the right price. Otherwise they go bust.
Socialism. Under this system the state directs what goods and services will be delivered, what their quality will be and also the price. This cannot possibly exist in a market because competition would kill it, so monopolies are essential for it to function. Such organisations exist for the benefit of the state, not the customers. They cannot go bust because they can fix prices and rely on the state for subsidies of taxpayers money.
Cuba 3
Now let’s look at what assets and strengths Cuba has to enrich their people with:
  • Its people. 11 million very well educated people. Their literacy and numeracy rate is better than Britain’s. Number 5 in the UN Education index.
  • Incredibly verdant and productive agriculture. Rich soil and a tropical climate combine to allow several crops per year.
  • Nickel and Cobalt. There are 5.5 million tons of Nickel waiting to be mined, 7% of the world total.
  • Oil. Cuba is an oil producer and known reserves of 20 billion barrels, one of the top 20 reserves in the world.
  • Tourism. Cuba is an idyllic tropical paradise with amazing beaches.
Hong Kong_Central_Statue_Square_Legislative_Council_Building_n_Neoclassicism_n_Lippo_Centre
Contrast and compare with what Hong Kong has to offer:
  • Seven million educated people. Number 87 in the UN Education index.
  • A great harbour.
  • Nothing else.
As you can see Cuba has Hong Kong well beaten.
  • 80% of the landmass was under cultivation or used for grazing. Cuba was second only to Brazil in exporting agricultural products to USA.
  • Cuba’s real per capita income was $378, fourth in Latin America. Spain ($324) and Portugal ($212), were both lower.
  • The share of national income paid to workers was 65 percent, only Great Britain, the United States, and Canada. were higher.
  • After WW2 HK had a population of just 600,000, during the 1950s there was a immense influx of refugees from China. 100,000 a month came till the population exceeded 3 million. Many lived in shanty towns.
  • With nothing for all these people to do the British colonial masters started manufacturing projects to make simple, low cost items like buttons, plastic items, umbrellas, artificial flowers etc.
Once again you can see Cuba has Hong Kong well beaten.
From this basis the two economies took different courses. Socialist Cuba couldn’t produce sugar competitively against world prices. They were rescued by the Soviet Union who bought the entire sugar crop at subsidised prices so as to keep Cuba afloat. When the Soviet Union imploded this stopped and 100,000 sugar workers lost their jobs. Visit Cuba today and great swathes of fertile farmland lie unused. Much else in the economy was also trashed as huge socialist inefficiencies stopped anything working properly. There was very little investment in buildings or infrastructure. Cuba now and is mostly frozen in a 1959 timewarp, but in a state of decay and disrepair.
In 1961 a Britain, John James Cowperthwaite, became financial secretary of Hong Kong, which was still a very poor. He invented and implemented “positive non interventionism” a highly libertarian management of the economy. This worked like magic and between 1961 and 1997 Hong Kong’s gross domestic product grew to be 180 times bigger. Everyone who lived in Hong Kong was free to do anything they wanted. There was minimum tax and minimum government. Enterprise, investment, risk taking, entrepreneurship were everywhere. Success was rewarded. Hong Kong became the most dynamic economy in the world.
Hong_Kong_Skyline_viewed_from_Victoria_Peak
So how are things today in Hong Kong:
Cuba 2
And in Cuba:
So there you have the irrefutable facts. Socialism is utterly disgusting and immoral, it damages the lives of everyone it touches except those at the very top who become enormously rich. Capitalism, unfettered. delivers incredible results. It enable anyone to become very rich who wants to. All they have to do is provide customers with what they want. This is by far the most moral form of human organisation.
Critics say that Hong Kong is small and that such measures cannot be applied to a big economy. They are wrong. China looked at what Hong Kong was doing and it was copied there by Deng Xiaoping in the 1980s. We have all seen the meteoric growth in the Chinese economy since then.
Other critics say that Cuba’s economy was held back by being embargoed by its regional superpower, the USA. They forget that Hong Kong was also embargoed by its regional superpower, China.
The system of having minimum government is called a Night Watchman State, economist advocates call it minarchism. It allows maximum human freedom, people can build their lives undisturbed by government extortion, they take responsibility for themselves. It also ensure the maximum competition when you spend your money as a customer. So you get better goods and services at better prices. Everyone in society wins.
Given the evidence it is amazing that every country has not done this. It is also utterly beyond belief that anyone can be stupid enough to vote for a socialist government. Socialism is our enemy.

Canadian fighter jets intercept Russian bombers in Arctic

CBC News
Tu-95 long-range bombers, codenamed 'Bears' by NATO, have been in service since 1956, early in the Cold War, and have flown hundreds of missions on the perimeter of Canada's airspace. (Reuters)
Fighter jets intercepted two Russian bombers flying about 75 kilometres off Canada’s Arctic coast in the early morning hours Thursday, NORAD revealed to CBC News.
Two CF-18s met the Tupolev Tu-95 long-range bombers, commonly referred to as "Bears," at around 1:30 a.m. PT as they flew a course in “the western reaches” of Canada’s Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) over the Beaufort Sea, said Maj. Beth Smith, spokeswoman for North American Aerospace Defence Command.
The ADIZ extends approximately 320 kilometres from Canada’s coastlines, a distance far beyond the 22 kilometres, or 12 nautical miles, from the coast that define a nation’s sovereign airspace. Smith made it clear that the Russian bombers never entered Canada’s sovereign airspace, but did come within about 75 kilometres of Canada's mainland.
The encounter comes one day after Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko delivered a speech in Parliament thanking Canada for its ongoing support as his country’s forces battle with pro-Russian separatist rebels.
“This is disturbing. We’ve heard stories like in the past, of Russian bombers challenging Canadian airspace,” said James Bezan, parliamentary secretary to the Minister of National Defence and a Conservative MP from Manitoba.
“This plays into the narrative of a Putin regime that’s more aggressive not just in Crimea, not just in Ukraine, but indeed testing their neighbour in their entire region," he said.
About six hours before the CF-18s intercepted the Russian bombers, American F-22 fighter jets were scrambled from a base in Alaska to meet a group of Russian aircraft, including two refuelling tankers, two MiG-31 fighters and two long-range bombers.
After the U.S. jets made contact, the group headed west back towards Russian airspace.
“We’re seeing increased aggressive actions being taken by the Russian Federation,” Bezan said during an interview on CBC’s Power & Politics.
Despite the ongoing tensions between Western allies and Russia, it is not the first time Canadian and U.S. aircraft have intercepted Russian bombers seemingly flying toward sovereign airspace.
According to Smith, NORAD has dispatched fighter jets to make contact with Russian long-range bombers “in excess of 50 times” in the last five years.
Canadian jets intercepted the same type of long-range bombers off the coast of Newfoundland in 2010. After that incident, Peter MacKay, then minister of defence, told CBC News that Canadian military aircraft intercept between 12 and 18 Russian bombers annually.

Más indicadores negativos de la economía castrista

cubaeconomia

Cuba to privatize 9,000 restaurants

The Cuban government announced plans Friday to sell nearly 9,000 state-owned restaurants to private operators, the latest step in the communist island's economic reforms.
Cubans frequently complain about the country's 8,984 state-owned restaurants, which are famous for poor quality, bad service and running out of food.
Deputy Trade Minister Aida Chavez said the state would sell them off in a gradual process starting in 2015.
"Cuba will substantially change the structure of its food services in the coming years, with the gradual and orderly transfer of the industry into the hands of the non-state sector," she said, according to the state-run National Information Agency.
Chavez said the government would rent the buildings where the restaurants are located to the new owners but sell off all other assets, from stoves to chairs to utensils.
"The decision... aims to modernize a sector that today demands services with the quality and security the Cuban people, and the tourists who visit us, deserve," she said.
Cuba currently has 1,261 private restaurants that offer better-quality food and service at a higher price than state establishments.
Known as "paladares," they were first authorized by former president Fidel Castro in the 1990s.
Initially, Castro only allowed family-run restaurants with a maximum of 12 seats, but today they can seat up to 50 guests and hire staff.
That has been a key development for the country's tourism industry, which draws nearly three million foreigners to the island each year.
Cuba has begun gradually opening its economy since Castro, the 88-year-old father of the island's communist revolution, ceded power to his younger brother Raul in 2006.
But the reforms have so far failed to deliver the hoped-for boost to economic growth.

(The Washington Free Beacon)

Cuban Baseball Players Being Interviewed by Feds

On Tuesday it was reported that federal authorities in the United States have been interviewing Cuban baseball players in the MLB to obtain more information about alleged smuggling rings that have brought a number of them to the United States.
A man by the name of Gilberto Suarez was charged for his alleged role in smuggling Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig out of Cuba and into the U.S. The 40-year-old pleaded not guilty to a charge of alien smuggling conspiracy last week and investigators are seeking millions of dollars in cash and purchases that Suarez allegedly received from Puig's $42 million contract.
Court documents also indicated back in April that Puig, and a Cuban boxer who was also smuggled to the U.S. during the same operation, have been receiving death threats from their alleged smugglers because of unpaid debts. Suarez and others allegedly financed the $400,000 smuggling trip, which took Puig and the boxer, Yunior Despaigne, by boat to Isla Mujeres near Cancun, Mexico. The two were then taken to Mexico City by ferry and granted residency by the Mexican government. Puig was then soon signed to a $42 million contract by the Los Angeles Dodgers, of which he reportedly owes 20% to both the Cuban- and Mexican-based smugglers.
According to sources, Puig has been interviewed on several occasions and is fully cooperating with federal authorities throughout the investigation. The feds are looking to solve the Suarez case, which almost mirrors that of Eliezer Lazo. The 41-year-old Lazo pleaded guilty in August to U.S. extortion charges involving the smuggling of more than 1,000 Cubans that netted him $1.5 million, according to assistant U.S. Attorney Ron Davidson. His smuggling venture is believed to have included Texas Rangers outfielder Leonys Martin.
In the documents for Suarez's case, Puig is believed to be the person who is referred to as "Y.P." and there are two others - "M.A.G." and "A.D." - that investigators are seeking out to find out what they know. Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez and Aledmys Diaz are two other MLB players who are believed to be paying smugglers a cut of their contract, as it was discovered Puig was doing when "at least one person affiliated with the Mexican-based smugglers who initially got Puig out of Cuba showed up at the Dodgers' team hotel and demanded Puig pay the money they felt they were still owed," ESPN reported back in April.
Both the U.S. and Cuban governments are seeking out these smugglers and are recruiting baseball players to become informants regarding the subject. Secret police in Cuba are believed to be watching the Cuban players within their country to obtain information about the smugglers, while U.S. officials are calling MLB teams to speak with any Cuban players on their rosters.

(el-alto-sueño);

le pidieron las piernas

duras y nudosas

¿No me envidias?”.

Has sufrido mucho, hombre, entra, te has ganado el cielo.
