Federal authorities have concluded that a 55-year-old Egypt-born Coptic Christian man living in the Los Angeles area was the key figure behind the anti-Islam film "Innocence of Muslims," blamed for sparking riots and protests in the Middle East, the Associated Press reported Thursday, quoting an unidentified U.S. law enforcement official.
Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, who the AP said is on probation after being convicted of financial crimes, also was twice sentenced to jail after being found guilty of intent to manufacture methamphetamine in the late 1990s, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office told NBC News. More >>
Bacile, who wrote and directed the controversial film, spoke to the AP
by phone from an undisclosed location, calling Islam "a cancer" and
saying he "intended his film to be a provocative political statement
condemning the religion."
According to The Hollywood Reporter,
Bacile is "a California real estate developer who identifies himself as
an Israeli Jew, [who] believes the movie will help his native land by
exposing Islam's flaws to the world."
A search on IMDB shows Bacile has no other film credits to his name.
We might as well just all cut our own throats and be done with it. There needs to be a wholesale housecleaning at the top in both Canada and the U.S.: not just an electoral turnover, but a thorough cleaning-out and replacement of the entrenched bureaucracies, unaccountable to anyone, that are working toward our own destruction. Work on a mega-mosque already well along in the construction process
in Murfreesboro, Tenn., has been shut down – the existing building’s
future uncertain – by a court’s ruling the county avoided the legal
process required for granting building permission for the project.
The ruling said the county’s actions effectively violated the state’s
Open Meetings law during the time when the mega-structure was being
approved.
“The court finds that the action of the county was not sufficient to
provide the type of notice to citizens of the county that such matters
were to be considered at the meeting of the Rutherford County Regional
Planning Commission which should be expected under our law,” said the
opinion made public today from the Chancery Court of Tennessee, 16th
District.
“Under the mandates of the statute, the court then finds that the
actions of that commission regarding the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro
were in fact void and of no effect.”
While there was a notice of the meeting in a local newspaper, the
paper itself had “virtually no paid circulation,” and there was no
showing of any notice on the county’s cable television station or on its
website.
“The court assumed there was no ill intention or willful deception on the part of the county,” the ruling continued.
“We do not attribute any sinister motives to the county, though we
note the undercurrent of the argument presented by the plaintiffs. We
simply find that the county failed to publish the meeting…”
The opinion noted that under the county regulations there is not an
entitlement to a public hearing, but there is a requirement that the
public be properly notified.
It further said that the denial of permission for a building to be
used “as a religious meeting place” must be done in a non-discriminatory
manner.
Gary Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation,
one of the attorneys working with the plaintiffs in the case, told WND
the next step likely will be a renewal of the attempts by the county to
grant building permission. He credited other attorneys on the case, Joe
Brandon and Tom Smith, with arguing the case successfully.
He said the plaintiffs contended the process ignored several factors,
including that the land where the now-unusable building stands formerly
was a pig farm, which is supposed to be anathema to Muslims.
He called it a “political power move” on the part of the powers who wanted the mosque to be built.
The Muslim organization building the mega-mosque had obtained
permission for nearly 53,000 square feet of buildings on its lot of
land, and the first 12,000-square-soot section was nearly done.
Rutherford County officials have said that they don’t expect any
buildings to be torn down, even though the process was violated.
She revealed how the Department of Justice, which though it has named
the Islamic Society of North America, the Council on American-Islamic
Relations and other key Muslim groups and figures as unindicted
co-conspirators in a scheme to fund the Palestinian terrorist group
Hamas, filed a friend-of-the-court brief demanding that the case against
the Murfreesboro mosque be dismissed.

World was written by Fareed Zakaria who is an editor at Newsweek
International, has a regular column in Newsweek, Newsweek International
and the Washington Post. He also hosts the weekend CNN program on
international affairs, Fareed Zakaria GPS. He was reared
Muslim in India but is an American citizen and describes himself as “not
a religious guy.” In a 2008 Newsweek article about his book,
Zakaria wrote, "The post-American world is naturally an unsettling
prospect for Americans, but it should not be. This will not be a world
defined by the decline of America but rather the rise of everyone else.
It is the result of a series of positive trends that have been
progressing over the last 20 years, trends that have created an
international climate of unprecedented peace and prosperity."
4. There is no
evidence that Barack Obama is Muslim although critics attempted to make

TORONTO - An Islamic school in Toronto is apologizing for offensive material
in its curriculum that called Jews "treacherous," contrasted Islam with
"the Jews and the Nazis" and told boys to exercise so they are "ready
for jihad."
The apology came a day after police and the Toronto District School Board
said they were investigating complaints about the material, which was
posted on the East End Madrassah's website. The school has since removed
it.
The material should never have been part of its curriculum
and a team of scholars is reviewing all texts and materials, the school
said in a release.
"Our curriculum is not intended to promote
hatred towards any individual or group of people, rather the children
are taught to respect and value other faiths, beliefs and to uphold
Canada's basic values of decency and tolerance," it said.
"We unreservedly apologize to the Jewish community for the unintentional offence that the item has caused." Premier Dalton McGuinty
weighed in on the controversy Tuesday, saying he's pleased both police
and the Toronto District School Board were investigating whether the
school was promoting hatred.
"There is no room for hatred or intolerance in this province," said McGuinty, who is expected to meet with Israeli President Shimon Peres on Wednesday.
The
complaint came from the Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, which
found the material on the school's website and alerted the school that
it had lodged a complaint.
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs denounced the material as "offensive and abhorrent."
"Such
slurs against the Jewish community violate the values that Canadians
hold dear, such as goodwill and mutual respect," Sheldon Goodman, the
centre's Greater Toronto co-chairman, said in a statement.
"Instead of promoting such values, this curriculum only serves to promote animosity, racism and hatred."
The
school has a permit from the school board to teach lessons on Sunday
from rented space in a public school in the city's east end.
The
centre said the board should more carefully scrutinize who rents its
space and take a closer look at what's being taught on its property. Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak
urged the minister of education to work with police to investigate the
complaints and "prosecute this to the fullest extent of the law."
"Israel
has no greater friend than Canada," Hudak said. "I'm proud of that and
our province should be in the exact same position."
The school's apology isn't good enough, he added.
"It's
not a matter of reviewing materials," Hudak said. "This is hatred. This
is poison. This type of material has no place in our classrooms, no
place in the province."

A local bookstore has “sold out” of a controversial marriage guide that advises Muslim men on how to beat their wives.
The 160-page book, published by Idara Impex in New Delhi, India, is
written by Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi, who’s described in the
book’s foreword as a “prolific writer on almost every topic of Islamic
learning.”
The store’s manager, who didn’t give his name, said the book had been
sold out for some time, and the store’s owner, whom the manager
identified as Shamim Ahmad, refused to comment for the story.
It wasn’t clear whether the shop has ordered more copies of the book,
but it’s available at online Islamic bookstores and even through eBay.
In the book’s opening pages, it is written that “it might be necessary to restrain her with strength or even to threaten her.”
Later, its author advises that “the husband should treat the wife
with kindness and love, even if she tends to be stupid and slow
sometimes.”
Page 45 contains the rights of the husband, which include his wife’s
inability to leave “his house without his permission,” and that his wife
must “fulfil his desires” and “not allow herself to be untidy ... but
should beautify herself for him ... ”
In terms of physical punishment, the book advises that a husband may
scold her, “beat by hand or stick,” withhold money from her or “pull
(her) by the ears,” but should “refrain from beating her excessively.”
Moderate Muslim voice Tarek Fatah says the shopkeeper should be charged for selling such a book.
“I wouldn’t say it’s hate, but it is inciting men to hit women,” said
Fatah, who identified the book’s author as a prominent Islamic scholar.
“This is new to you, but the Muslim community knows that this is
widespread, that a woman can be beaten. Muslim leaders will deny this,
but... ”
Male dominance over women has been making headlines for some time,
with the recent lengthy trial and conviction of the Shafia family.
Mohammad Shafia, 59, his second wife, Tooba Yahya, 42, and their son,
Hamed, 21, were each convicted in January on four counts of
first-degree murder in what was characterized as an honour killing of
four female family members as punishment for disobedience. They were
handed life sentences with no chance of parole for 25 years.
Shafia’s three daughters and his first wife were found drowned in a
car at the bottom of the Rideau Canal in Kingston, Ont., in June 2009.
Eric Brazau says he was flipping through the marriage guide while in the bookstore around a month ago.
Brazau bought it out of curiosity but was taken aback when he found
dozens of chapters and passages giving Muslim husbands advice on
controlling, restraining, scolding and beating their wives.
“At first, I thought that it is incredible that this kind of thing
can be found in Canada,” said Brazau. “And then I thought, radical Islam
is not coming to Canada, it is already here.”

After September 11 the reasonable thing to do would have been to take
steps to save ourselves from Islamic terror, instead we went on a
crusade to save Muslims from themselves. The latest stop on that crusade
is Syria, where the foreign policy experts responsible for decades of
horrifying misjudgments tell us that we are duty bound to save the
Syrian people from their dictator.
Rarely do we ask why it is that Muslims so often need saving from
their dictators. Or why a party that campaigned on improving America’s
reputation by promising not to bomb Muslims anymore, is now improving
America’s reputation by bombing so many Muslims and so often that it
makes George W. Bush look like a tie dyed hippie. More >>
We made three fundamental mistakes in our dealings with Islam. First, we assumed that the only politically acceptable answer was also the right answer. This is the most common mistake that politicians make.
Second, we established a construct of a moderate and extreme Islam that reflected how we saw it from the outside. This construct had no theological relationship to any actual belief or movement within Islam. Had we made the division into modern and fundamentalist, we would at least have been using words that meant something. Instead we used moderate and extreme in a military sense to mean hostile and friendly or neutral. But as a Vietnam era president and military command should have known, in a guerrilla war not everyone who isn’t shooting at you is friendly or even neutral.
Our construct was black and white with few shades of gray. But the Muslim world is all shades of gray. The absolute choice we wanted them to make, “you’re either with us or with the terrorists”, was foreign to their culture and their way of life. Multiple layers of contradictory relationships and alliances are the norm in the region. You expect to betray and be betrayed, much as you expect to cheat and be cheated while bartering for a carpet at the souk. In a region where coalitions of Fascists, Communists and Islamists are doable, contradictions don’t exist, all alliances are expedient and built on an expected betrayal. The rise of Islam itself was built on broken peace treaties. So it is no wonder then that in response to Bush’s call, they chose both us and the terrorists. Appeasing America and the Islamists at the same time was their version of the politically safe middle ground, the path of least resistance and the only acceptable option.
And the more we prattled about the peacefulness of Islam, the more we looked like we could be easily appeased with a few gestures. And so it was the Islamists who were more threatening, who got the benefit of of their appeasement. We had asked Muslim countries for an alliance with no mixed allegiances, in a region where only kin could ask or count on such an arrangement. And we are not their kin, neither by blood and certainly not by religion. While we insisted that all people were the same, this was a statement of our belief, not theirs. And they did not believe that we believed it either.
Rather than learning what the Muslim world was, we had already decided what we wanted it to be. But our perspective was a foreign one. They might pander to it, but they would never dictate their own beliefs by it. We might talk of a moderate or extreme Islam, but that is our idea, not theirs. There is more than one form of Islam, they are not defined by their extremism or moderation. Nor by their approach toward violence. No more than we are.
Muslim theology is violent, because violence has always been a tool of its expansion. When we ask Muslims to disassociate themselves from violence, we are really asking them to disassociate themselves from Islam. And this they will not do. They will contextually condemn some acts of terror, depending on the identity of the perpetrators and the targets, and the impact of the acts on the nation and ideology of the Muslim or Muslims in question. The military’s behavior is hardly inexplicable; Egypt’s own history offers countless precedents demonstrating context and continuity. Consider the Mamluks, the non-Muslims who were abducted and enslaved in youth, indoctrinated in Islam, and trained to become jihadists par excellence. While the Ottoman Janissaries, who terrorized Europe for centuries, are the most notorious of Islam’s slave soldiers, Egypt’s Mamluks—the word mamluk simply means “owned”—actually assumed power, establishing a slave dynasty in Egypt from 1258-1517.
