Dem Sen Menendez to Face Criminal Corruption Charges — After Opposing Obama

CNN reports that the Justice Department plans to bring criminal corruption charges against Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ).

“The government’s case centers on Menendez’s relationship with Salomon Melgen, a Florida ophthalmologist who the senator has called a friend and political supporter,” CNN reports. “Melgen and his family have been generous donors to the senator and various committees the senator is associated with.”
Breitbart News investigative journalist Matthew Boyle first broke the Menendez scandal while working for The Daily Caller before the 2012 election, right before he came to work for Breitbart News, and Breitbart News has been reporting on this story for more than two years. In Jan. of 2013, for example, Breitbart News wrote that “Menendez’s staff admitted the senator flew to the Dominican on Melgen’s private plane on three occasions and told NBC News’ Michael Isikoff that Menendez stays at Melgen’s villa while there about twice a year.”
The pair’s involvement in a “Dominican port security deal reads like the plot of a Hollywood movie,” as Breitbart News detailed in March of 2013. When Menendez was up for reelection, Breitbart News reported that Melgen donated more than $700,000, and also gave generously to New Jersey county Democratic committees.
Melgen has had legal problems of his own. “Earlier this year, the FBI raided the medical offices of Dr. Salomon Melgen, seizing documents to investigate suspicions that he was overbilling Medicare,” Breitbart News reported in Feb. 2013.
The potential indictment comes after Democrat Menendez publicly disagreed with the Obama administration on two high profile issues: its Cuba policy and its Iran policy.

Ariel Sharon, 1928-2014

Moshe Dayan [r] y Ariel Sharon/ miblog-shomer.blogspot.com

Former Israeli leader Ariel Sharon has passed away at the age of 85. The former prime minister, defense minister, and general had been comatose since Jan. 2006, when he suffered a series of strokes that resulted in his permanent hospitalization. Sharon was among the last surviving members of the generation that founded, and fought for, the State of Israel in 1948. His ideological foe, President Shimon Peres, is another.

For much of his career, Sharon was known as a military and political hard-liner. He was a lieutenant in the 1948 war, which began after Palestinian Arabs and surrounding Arab states attacked the fledgling Jewish state rather than accept the partition of Palestine into Jewish and Arab countries. Sharon was seriously wounded at the Battle of Latrun--one of the Arab forces' few victories, thanks to Jordan's British-trained Arab Legion.
Following the armistice, Sharon led an elite Israeli guerrilla unit that conducted cross-border reprisals and raids to deter Palestinian fedayeen from carrying out terror attacks inside Israel. His aggressive tactics drew criticism from fellow Israeli leaders--and cultivated a fearsome reputation in the Arab world. He continued to cause controversy with his preference for offensive rather than defensive tactics in Israel's subsequent wars.
Sharon's vindication, both militarily and politically, came in the Yom Kippur War, when Israeli forces were taken by surprise by Egyptian and Syrian forces attacking on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar across the Suez Canal and in the Golan Heights, respectively. Israel's defensive strategy against Egypt had depended on a string of lightly-guarded forts along the canal, almost all of which fell within hours of the Egyptian assault.
As Israel's military leadership shuddered, and Prime Minister Golda Meir scrambled to secure U.S. arms, Sharon emerged from retirement to lead troops in the Sinai. He led a daring crossing of the Suez Canal, eventually penetrating behind Egyptian lines, encircling Egypt's entire Third Army and destroying the Soviet-made surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) that had kept the overwhelming power of the Israel Air Force in check.
Soldiers hailed Sharon as a hero, and his performance--amplified by the fact that he had suffered a head wound during the war and kept fighting regradless--boosted his political ambitions within Israel's conservative Likud Party, which came to power in 1977 after 29 years of dominance by the left-wing Labor Party. Sharon served the government of Menachem Begin, first as Minister of Agriculture and then as Minister of Defense.
It was in the latter capacity that Sharon showed signs of being willing to make difficult sacrifices for peace. After Begin signed the Camp David Accords with Egypt, guaranteeing a return of the Sinai desert (captured in 1967) in exchange for peace and normalization of relations, Sharon took up the task of evacuating the settlement of Yamit, which Israel had established in the Sinai in anticipation of building a deep-water port.
Soon thereafter, Sharon also suffered his greatest political setback. When Palestinian guerrillas made life in the north of Israel difficult through repeated shelling and terror attacks, Israel responded by invading and ousting the Palestinian guerrilla strongholds in southern Lebanon. Yet Sharon, who had initially only sought approval for a limited invasion, soon led Israeli forces all the way to the capital city of Beirut itself.
One of the Christian militias with which Israel had aligned itself then conducted massacres in the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatilla, in retaliation for the assassination of the Lebanese president. Israeli forces provided cover for the militia until they finally intervened to stop the killing. A subsequent inquiry by Israel's Kahan commission found Sharon had failed to prevent the massacres, and he was forced to resign.
Sharon gradually found his way back to the political forefront as a critic of the Oslo peace accords, which were signed in 1993 after secret talks between the Israeli government and Yasser Arafat's Palestine Liberation Organization. Under the agreement, Israeli forces withdrew from Palestinian cities in the West Bank and Gaza, two territories taken by Israel in the Six-Day War of 1967. Yet Palestinian terror continued--and accelerated.
By 2000, after Prime Minister Ehud Barak had withdrawn the last Israeli soldiers from southern Lebanon and offered Arafat generous concessions in exchange for peace, Sharon emerged as the leader of the opposition. After Arafat rejected Barak's terms at the Camp David peace conference in July 2000, Palestinians began plans for a renewed intifada--one far more violent than the popular protest that had erupted in late 1987.
Palestinians used Sharon's controversial visit to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem--which falls under Israeli sovereignty, but remains a Muslim prayer site, despite its connection to the Jewish faith--as the pretext to launch the second intifada, which included brutal terror attacks and live exchanges between Palestinian police and Israeli forces. A disillusioned Israeli public elected Sharon to lead the government in January 2001.
Over the next several years, Sharon succeeded in defeating Palestinian terror through deft counter-insurgency warfare and the construction of a sophisticated barrier (mostly a fence, though a wall in some sections) along and partly within the West Bank. In the process, he resisted intense international pressure and criticism, including false accusations of a "massacre" in the Palestinian city of Jenin, among other exaggerated claims.
Sharon gradually dismantled much of the government of Palestinian Authority chairman Arafat--physically, as well as politically. Arafat, whom Sharon considered a "murderer," won the support of U.S. President George W. Bush for a Palestinian state, a gesture Sharon openly compared to the appeasement of Munich. The Bush administration scaled back its Palestinian outreach after Arafat was caught smuggling weapons from Iran.
Aside from that disagreement, Bush and Sharon worked together well, especially as the U.S. confronted new terror threats of its own. After Arafat's death in 2004, Sharon indicated that he was more willing to work with his successor, Mahmoud Abbas, who was elected to lead the Palestinian Authority in January 2005. Peace talks continued, often under U.S. pressure, but did not advance significantly towards a final agreement.
It was then that Sharon carried out the most dramatic--and fateful--policy of his political career: the Gaza "disengagement," a unilateral withdrawal of soldiers and settlers from Gaza. Ironically, Sharon had campaigned for re-election against such a withdrawal, which had been the policy of his Labor Party opponent. Yet Sharon saw an opportunity to relieve the cost of occupation, and boost Israel's diplomatic position.
After several members of his own party resigned in protest, Sharon formed a new government, and eventually a new party, Kadima ("Forward") to support the withdrawal. In August 2005, Israeli soldiers evacuated the remaining settlers from Gaza, amidst tearful scenes of civil disobedience. Sharon's reward was official U.S. recognition of some Israeli territorial claims in the West Bank, and worldwide acclaim for his statesmanship.
In private conversations, Sharon stressed that he had decided on the disengagement policy because he believed it would be best for the long-term security of Israel and the Jewish people. Palestinian terror groups, however, had other ideas, destroying the infrastructure the settlers had left behind and accelerating rocket attacks against Israeli civilians in the towns and communities near the border--including Sharon's own farm.
In late 2005, on the eve of new Israeli elections, and in the midst of official investigations into a loan Sharon had received during his previous campaign, Sharon suffered a mild stroke. He suffered a far more serious one in January 2006. His most fanatical critics on the Israeli right, who had once seen him as a savior, called his illness divine retribution. His successor, Ehud Olmert, faced two wars from newly-emboldened terror groups.
Sharon, who is survived by two sons and their children, suffered many personal tragedies. His first wife died in a car accident, his second wife died of cancer, and a third son was accidentally shot by a friend. His legacy will remain controversial. He is remembered as a killer, traitor, and hero. At the core, he was a man obsessed with the security of the Jewish people--and he was willing to confront them, if necessary, to achieve it.

Sergio García, America's First Illegal Immigrant Lawyer, May Run for Governor

Sergio Garcia/ storify.com

The first attorney in history to receive admission to a state bar association despite being in America illegally says practicing law isn't the limit for him; he might run for governor of California.

Sergio García, who was brought into the country illegally at 17 months and has been waiting 19 years for a legal permit, stayed in America, and graduated from Cal Northern School of Law in 2009, told EFE that he could see himself "launching a political campaign."

"Insofar as it's legally possible for me, I'm thinking of launching a political campaign with the aim of eventually, perhaps many years from now, running for governor," he said.

He noted that he is still very much interested in practicing law, but that being undocumented in the United States poses barriers even for an admitted member of the California bar. While the California bar wanted to accept him, his case reached the California Supreme Court when the Justice Department objected to his admission on account of his legal status. And many things remain out of reach for Garcia.

It is illegal, for example, for any firm to hire him and for him to receive payment from clients. "I can't take a job from a person who's here legally, but there's absolutely no law that says that I can't create my own job and open my own company," he noted, which means that, as a lawyer, he may have to hang up his own shingle. And Garcia added that this is where the idea of running for public office came: there are no specific rules for some low-level offices mentioning legal status in the United States, and "many years from now," it is possible Garcia's status in the country will be stabilized.

California became the first state to allow an illegal immigrant to practice law this month when the California Supreme Court ruled that Garcia, who graduated law school and passed the state bar, should be allowed membership. The California legislature had previously attempted to pass a bill that would allow illegal immigrants to work in the legal industry, but the state courts preempted it. Governor Jerry Brown signed a law shortly after the court decision cementing the practice, however. The Court's Chief Justice, Tani Catil-Sakauye, stated in the court decision that "the admission of an undocumented immigrant who has met all the qualifications for admission to the State Bar is fully consistent with this state's public policy."

Steven Seagal May Run for Arizona Governor to Secure Border

Steven Seagal is a 61-year-old actor and member of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's civilian "posse" who says he is ready to run for Arizona governor on a platform of increasing border security.

Seagal has been deputized "with sheriff's offices in New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana."
According to CBS Las Vegas, the actor spent a lot of time with Arpaio while filming "Steven Seagal--Lawman: Maricopa County," and emerged from that thinking about the need to secure the border. He says he discussed his thoughts on a gubernatorial bid with Arpaio but did not provide details of that discussion.
If Seagal does run for statewide office, he has a long history of seeming exaggeration and odd behavior he will have to explain to voters. Vice has a list of Seagal's more outrageous statements which may escaped the attention of many TV viewers and Arizona voters. These include his claim to have "trained CIA operatives," to speak "four languages fluently," and being "clairvoyant... a healer."

A communist is the new Mayor of New York: Ripping Off the “Progressive” Mask

NewZeal
By: Cliff Kincaid
rippingoffAccuracy in Media
In a column on the “remarkable lives” of some people who passed away in 2013, Republican strategist Karl Rove writes that British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, in concert with Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, and Pope John Paul II, “transformed the world.” He’s right that Reagan, Bush, Thatcher and the Pope did transform the world. In saying that Thatcher stood up to Soviet communism, however, he neglected to mention that the Soviet Communists fought back, attempting to assassinate Pope John Paul II. The Soviets lied about their involvement in this plot.
Referring to Nelson Mandela, Rove says he “spent 26 years in prison before emerging to end apartheid and serve as the first president of a multiracial South African democracy.” However, Mandela’s debt to Soviet communism, which armed his movement, went unmentioned in Rove’s Wall Street Journal column. Rove also failed to note that the communists who run South Africa today counted Mandela as one of their own. The “democratic” South Africa of today is effectively a one-party state, and the white minority is under siege and facing genocide.
Rove writes that Mandela went “on trial for his life,” neglecting to mention that he was convicted of terrorism and could have been hanged for his crimes. Instead, Mandela received a prison sentence. The white government was actually quite lenient and offered to release him if he would renounce violence and terrorism. He never did. His terrorism cost innocent lives.
Karl Rove should know better, and probably does. He apparently has his own reasons for shading the truth. Those reasons include appearing to be “moderate” in one’s public comments and accepting certain myths about public figures. That means, in Mandela’s case, accepting his false claim that he never joined the Communist Party of South Africa.
It is a sad fact that telling a lie these days has become more convenient than telling the truth. This is a terrible commentary on those with access to our major media.
Consider the coverage of the inauguration of Bill de Blasio as New York City’s mayor. The term “progressive” is used in most accounts to describe him and his backers. De Blasio accepts that term. Yet, by any objective measure, he is a dedicated Marxist, and has been for most of his life. For example, he never disavowed his support for the communist Sandinistas in Nicaragua. He claims to have honeymooned in communist Cuba, when such a trip was illegal. His wife was a member of a Marxist collective.
As if to demonstrate that his views haven’t changed, one of de Blasio’s inauguration speakers was the entertainer Harry Belafonte, who performed at a “concert for peace” in communist East Germany in 1983. He claims he did not join the Communist Party USA, but acknowledges in his book, My Song: A Memoir, that he used to attend lectures in 1947 at the Jefferson School in New York City. He says the Jefferson School “openly billed itself as an institute of Marxist thought affiliated with the American Communist party.” He says he heard such speakers as I.F. Stone, the so-called “independent journalist” later unmasked as a Soviet intelligence agent.
At the time he attended lectures at the Jefferson School, Russia “seemed to be leading the way” internationally in achieving a “classless society,” Belafonte writes in his book.
Belafonte also endorsed and raised money for Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren when she was running for that office. The Massachusetts GOP tried to make that an issue, but the media paid no attention.
When it comes to children, the truth has to be concealed as well. Indeed, this target audience has to be “educated” intensively to become young recruits to the “progressive” movement.
Consider that a firm called Bluewater Productions has released a new “tribute comic book biography” on Nelson Mandela, insisting on page nine that Mandela was “never a communist himself” but only worked with the communists. The fact is that the South African Communist Party and the African National Congress have both acknowledged his membership on the SACP’s central committee. Mandela lied about it all his life.
Bluewater publisher Darren G. Davis calls the comic book “a great tool for kids to read about him in a different medium.” He adds that, “Our biography comic books are now taught in schools and libraries for students and reluctant readers.”
I asked Davis why the comic book lies about Mandela’s membership in the Communist Party. He told me, “I will check with the writer on that and get back to you on it.” That was over two weeks ago. Clearly, they have no justification for this striking omission.
It would seem to be important for our young people to understand the role that communism played, and continues to play, in national and world events. After all, this philosophy killed more than 100 million people, made millions more economically destitute, and continues to deny freedom to more than one billion people worldwide.
If used in schools and libraries, this comic book will deceive “students and reluctant readers” about how communism has come to power in South Africa. What purpose is served by that? It will enable the same forces to make even more gains around the world, including in the United States, by operating as “progressives.”
Part of Rove’s column was devoted to remembering two conservative businessmen, Bob Perry and Harold Simmons, who died in 2013 and were “passionate about their state and country and were generous donors to conservative candidates and causes, including American Crossroads.”
Rove is referring to his own political campaign organization, which refused to call President Obama a Marxist when buying millions of dollars of advertising against him during the 2012 presidential campaign. As a result, Obama and the George Soros-funded “progressives” won.
Rove says about Perry and Simmons, “These two self-made men never forgot that from those to whom much is given, much is required.” But the $300 million that went to Rove in 2012 was mostly wasted.
What the country desperately needs are donors willing to underwrite the organizations that are not afraid to tell the truth about the dangers we face. Being polite and politically correct when the survival of our nation’s democratic institutions and traditional values are at stake is nothing less than national suicide.
The “progressives” have to be exposed as the hard-core Marxists they are.

Royal Canadian Mint’s chair allegedly helped a former prime minister’s heirs hide millions of dollars offshore

James Love with Finance Minister Jim Flaherty
James Love, who also advised Finance Minister Jim Flaherty on international taxation, acted on behalf of the family of Arthur Meighen, who served as prime minister of Canada from July 10, 1920 to December 29, 1921.
In a lawsuit, two Meighen granddaughters accused him of breach of trust over the offshore transactions they claimed were unlawful and negligent.
Court documents in the suit filed in 2008 and discreetly settled three years later say Love helped arrange the transfer of more than Can$8 million starting in 1996 to Bermuda, Barbados and Antigua.
Obtained by public broadcaster CBC, the documents show Tara and Alyssa Meighen had concerns about taxes, interest and penalties if the scheme was ever exposed.
The CBC said Love countered in sworn statements that the offshore transfers “resulted in significant savings of Canadian taxes” for Meighen’s heirs, estimated at Can$1 million.
He also denied any breach of trust.
Moving assets to offshore trusts is not inherently illegal, but Canada and other Western nations have moved to tighten the rules to prevent abuses.
Love reportedly acknowledged in an affidavit rules in the Canadian tax code “to prevent transfers of assets from Canada to avoid Canadian taxation.”
But he nevertheless advised trustees of the Meighen family fortune that “it might be possible to structure a transaction that would have the intended results.”
“Such a result might be obtained through a more complex transaction,” he said in the affidavit.
Former prime minister Arthur Meighen's great-granddaugthers Tarah Wright, right, and Alyssa Wright, centre, alleged that lawyer James Love, left, helped their grandfather effectively cut them off from their inheritance, in part using offshore investments. (CP/Farzin Photography/Dalhousie University)
The trustee, Canada Trust, which has since been absorbed by TD Bank, agreed to what it described as a “tax avoidance scheme” in an internal memo filed with the court.
The money was routed through a dozen transfers involving numbered companies and bank accounts in Ontario, New York, Barbados, Bermuda and Antigua, as well as share transfers and loans.
Eventually the funds appeared to end up back in Canada. The Antigua holding companies that absorbed the funds reportedly hired Love’s Toronto-based financial firm, Legacy Private Trust, as an investment manager.
Love was appointed to the board of the Royal Canadian Mint in 2006 and was named chair in 2009.
Love, a close friend of Finance Minister Jim Flaherty who was appointed to the Mint’s board in 2006, was also a trustee for most of the last decade of the Arthur Meighen Trust, an entity set up by the former Conservative PM in 1949 to distribute his wealth to his family. Before taking on that formal role, documents show Love had been an adviser and “close” friend to several Meighen family members.
It was in that advisory role that Love, in the mid-1990s, informed the managers of the Meighen Trust that they could get “Canadian tax relief on the income from about 40 per cent of the [trust] assets” if they moved the money offshore, Meighen’s great-granddaughters say in their statement of claim.
The use of secret accounts in offshore jurisdictions like Switzerland or the Cayman Islands has been thrust into the media limelight in recent years, following a spate of data leaks — including from several Swiss banks — that exposed account-holders’ identities and information.  The most recent large leak was made public in April, when CBC News teamed up with the U.S.-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists to report on secret accounts linked to 130,000 people worldwide.

Why Toronto Can't Fire 'Crack Mayor' Rob Ford

Rob Ford
REUTERS/Mark Blinch
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has made international headlines with his crazy antics this month — he's admitted to smoking crack cocaine in a "drunken stupor," made lewd remarks about oral sex at a press conference, and apologized for going on a bizarre, "extremely inebriated" rant about wanting to murder someone.
It's mind-boggling that he's still in office and refusing to step down or take a leave, but there's really not much the city can do to remove him.
In fact, Toronto has already tried once before to toss Ford from office because of conflict of interest issues, but he won on appeal and was able to keep his job.
Unlike many municipalities in the U.S., Toronto does not have a recall process. Voters don't have the option to gather signatures on a petition and launch a special election to oust officials who have behaved badly.
The Atlantic Wire points out that there are only three circumstances that would make Ford ineligible for office: being convicted of a crime and imprisoned, missing three consecutive months of city council meetings, or violating conflict of interest rules.
Considering that the next election is in 2014, it's unlikely that Ford will be convicted of a crime and jailed before then. And he's still desperately clinging to office despite repeated calls for his resignation.
It seems that the only option left for the city council is to let Ford keep his position but render it completely worthless by taking away his power.
NOW magazine in Toronto has a pretty good breakdown of what that would look like. The council has already begun to slowly strip Ford of his authority. If they continue in this vein, which they plan to, most of Ford's duties could be transferred to the deputy mayor and he could lose his budget.
The province of Ontario could also step in and create a law declaring the mayor's office vacant, but the provincial government is reluctant to interfere in municipal affairs unless specifically asked by the city council. And the council isn't keen on asking a higher government to step in, because that might make it seem like the city can't handle its own affairs.
At this point, the city just has to sit and wait.

China, the government JustinTrudeau most admires

By Terry Glavin*
Perhaps the most appalling thing that Liberal leader Justin Trudeau’s latest bimbo convulsion says about the state of Canada’s political culture is that there is no political capital quite so valuable as the currency of having certain rich and (to judge by the tone of the invitation) ditzy Toronto ladies think you cut something of a dash. You can say things as moronic as anything Toronto mayor Rob Ford ever mumbled between hauls on his crack pipe. You will remain a respected front-runner in the long race for the office of the prime minister of Canada. Not the half of it are the imbecilities that erupted from Trudeau at that nauseating “ladies night” Liberal fundraiser in Toronto last Thursday. Perhaps more noteworthy are the spasms of stupidity that gripped Trudeau in the aftermath. But first, here’s Trudeau’s response to a question about which foreign country’s government he most admired. “You know, there’s a level of admiration I actually have for China because, ah, because their basic dictatorship is allowing them to actually turn their economy around on a dime and say ‘we need to go green fastest, we need to start investing in solar.’ I mean there is a flexibility that I know Stephen Harper must dream about of having, a dictatorship that he can do everything he wanted, that I find quite interesting.” We will set aside the fabulist absurdities Trudeau managed to pack into those two sentences along with any excuses to the effect that Trudeau was being merely facetious or ironic — as though sniggering about a mass-murdering tyranny is good form at any time, let alone so close to Remembrance Day. Here’s how Trudeau availed himself of the opportunity to rephrase or correct himself, during an impromptu sidewalk interview with a television crew last Friday. “Ah, in this world we are competing with countries that have the capacity to react to big issues quickly and completely. We need to make sure that even though we have to compete with them, ah, we can get things done completely, and that means that not, that not falling back on our, ah, not weakening on our human rights, making sure that we are still protecting all of the things we know. But we do need to get together to support people.” A Miss Teen USA contestant wouldn’t get away with saying something like that. In the interregnum between his Thursday evening indiscretion and his Friday afternoon inanity there was also a volley of tweets Trudeau fired off in that Edwardian drama-queen tone he adopts whenever he feels someone has been ungallant to him. It’s hard to say which was of these outbursts is the most airheaded. Here’s one: “It’s ridiculous for anyone to suggest that I of all people would trade our rights and freedoms for any other system of gvt.” Of all people, indeed, and can’t you just picture his tresses wobbling as he declaims in this way, just like in those shampoo commercials? Here’s another: “I pointed out that globally Canada is up against big countries (China, for one) that can address some major issues quickly.” Big issues like the health care system the decrepit Chinese ruling class keeps to itself and maintains freshly and quickly supplied with organs harvested from still-living dissidents and members of outlawed religious minorities, one is left to suppose.
Of course we shouldn’t be completely humourless about this. Thanks are due particularly to an anonymous wag in the New Democratic Party’s communiqué-production shop who came up with the explanation that Trudeau’s China shout-out was merely a matter of him letting out “his inner Sarah Palin.” But there is an unfunny side to it. For decades, the Trudeau family’s faction of the Liberal party has maintained a sleazy and cozy relationship with Beijing’s billionaire parasites, and these same Communist Party princelings, bloated from the slave labour of China’s masses, are abandoning China in droves and decamping into the tonier neighbourhoods of Canada’s cities. Nothing would please them more than having the Dauphin moving into the Langevin Block. This is not to impugn Trudeau’s intentions, of course. A more charitable and fair-minded conclusion is called for, one that recognizes the Liberal party as a shambles, and its leader, Justin Trudeau, as a ridiculous, morally illiterate and fathomlessly unserious person. -------------- *Terry Glavin is an author and journalist whose most recent book is Come From the Shadows.

NYC’s Mayor-Elect Long Tied to Cuba & Nicaragua’s Sandinistas

Bill De Blasio's marriage to Cirlane McCray, a former lesbian, was a major development in De Blasio's ride to power. The couple are seen today after their landslide victory.

Bill De Blasio, the Big Apple’s first Democratic mayor in decades, is an unapologetic Sandinista supporter who later honeymooned in Cuba. Beginning his political career as a minor aide to David Dinkins, the last Democratic NYC mayor, he subsequently served in the Clinton administration and ran Hillary Clinton’s Senate campaign.

De Blasio travelled to Nicaragua while in college during the 1980s. Further enamored by his visit, he returned home and joined a Nicaragua solidarity group. Questioned during the campaign about his support of the brutal Sandinista regime, he sounded very much like convicted spy Ana Montes, claiming he was “very proud” of his support of the Sandinista Revolution.

Who’s more powerful: the omnipotent head of a corroding but still feisty superpower or the handcuffed head of the most dominant country in the world? This year, our votes for the World’s Most Powerful People — an annual look at the heads of state, financiers, philanthropists and entrepreneurs who truly rule the world — went with the former.

President Vladimir Putin has solidified his control over Russia (“dictator” is no longer an outlandish word to ponder) while U.S. President Barack Obama’s lame duck period has seemingly set in earlier than usual for a two-term president — latest example: the government shutdown mess. Anyone watching this year’s chess match over Syria has a clear idea of the shifting individual power dynamic.

Leader of Black Communist Terrorist Group Elected Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi

Here’s where you might have last heard of the Republic of New Africa.
Two hijackers who have been living in exile in Cuba claim they shot and killed a New Mexico police officer in self-defense after he stopped them in a stolen car in 1971 near Albuquerque.
Hill and Finney were interviewed in Havana, where they have been living since the 1971 hijacking of TWA Flight 106 at Albuquerque International Airport. Rosenbloom was shot days earlier.
At the time, the two men were members of a group called the Republic of New Africa, a Black Panther splinter group. They were driving across country when Rosenbloom stopped them.
After the shooting, the men went into hiding for several days and then called for a tow truck. They hijacked the truck and drove onto the tarmac at the airport where they commandeered Flight 106, which had 49 people aboard, to Tampa, Fla. They released the passengers there, and then took off for Havana after refueling.
On July 1, Chokwe Lumumba, an attorney with a long record of black radical activism, took office as mayor of Jackson.
A crowd of 2,500 packed the hall. The city councilors and other dignitaries, most of them African-American — Jackson, a city of 177,000, is 80 percent black — sat on the dais.
Then Lumumba smiled and raised his right hand halfway, just a little above the podium, briefly showing the clenched fist of a Black Power salute.
“And I want to say, free the land!”
Applause rang out, bells chimed, wooden staffs rose up and people shouted back, “Free the land!” That’s the motto of the Republic of New Afrika (RNA), the movement formed in 1968 that sought to turn the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina into an independent black nation.
Jackson’s new mayor is a former vice president of the RNA and a co-founder of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (MXGM), a national group born in 1993 that seeks self-determination for African-Americans — whom it calls New Afrikans — “by any means necessary.”

Pro-Castro aspirante democrata a alcalde de Nueva York

Chirlane McCray and Bill de Blasio/ www.nydailynews.com

(el-alto-sueño);

le pidieron las piernas

duras y nudosas

¿No me envidias?”.
“…Me cuidan, me cuidan un poquito entre todos. No le hacen caso a uno, siempre estoy peleando para que no me manden nada. Cuando cojo el sol por la mañana en shorts y siento el aire de mar, me parece que estoy en una playa… ¡Me van a hacer creer que estoy de vacaciones! ¿Qué diría Carlos Marx de semejantes revolucionarios?”.
