House Extends Plastic Gun Ban Without Roll Call Vote

Using a procedure that prevents constituents from knowing which Republicans voted in favor of a ban on plastic guns, the House extended the Undetectable Firearms Act for another ten years Tuesday.

The original bill was passed in 1988—the height of the anti-Glock/plastic gun frenzy—and has twice been renewed since then. 

According to The Hill, the extension bill was sponsored by Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC), who claimed the bill had "overwhelming bipartisan support." 

Democrats were eager to support an extension of the ban. At the same time, they believe the ban needs to be updated "to take into account technology that allows plastic weapons and weapon parts to be produced on 3D printers."

Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY) says the law ought to require that "essential gun parts... include some metal component."

“The moment the Second Amendment collapses, this country will collapse, period,” Manuel Martinez told TheBlaze over the phone this week.

Having escaped communist Cuba in 1962, Martinez has spent the last few years warning everyone he can about the dangers of expanding government, communism, and the alarming changes he sees happening within the United States.

Last Friday, he was able to reach more people than ever when Dan Sandini at Daylight Disinfectant posted video of his testimony on YouTube, and the story was picked up by news outlets across the country.

Martinez declined to be questioned by the pro gun-control politicians after testifying, responding only with “Freedom! Freedom!” as he walked out the door.

But with some help from Dan Sandini, Tami Jackson at Black Sphere, and radio host Bill Post, TheBlaze was able to interview the man who gave such an impassioned testimony in Salem, Oregon last week.

You cannot “compromise” on your rights, he told TheBlaze.  They are “nonnegotiable,” and the senators who fail to understand that are betraying the very country they have sworn to protect.

“That’s one of the very, very first things that was done in my native country, is to take away the guns from the people,” he recalled.  “There was a very famous…speech by Fidel Castro, which is ‘armas para que?’ or, ‘weapons for what?’”

And it happened “little by little,” Martinez said, until one day it was no longer voluntary handover of your weapons for the good of society, or just certain weapons they wanted.

How would you feel if you received a letter from the U.S. Government informing you that because of a physical or mental condition that the government says you have it is proposing to rule that you are incompetent to handle your own financial affairs? Suppose that letter also stated that the government is going to appoint a stranger to handle your affairs for you at your expense? That would certainly be scary enough but it gets worse.

What if that letter also stated: “A determination of incompetency will prohibit you from purchasing, possessing, receiving, or transporting a firearm or ammunition. If you knowingly violate any of these prohibitions, you may be fined, imprisoned, or both pursuant to the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, Pub.L.No. 103-159, as implemented at 18, United States Code 924(a)(2).”?

That makes is sound like something right from a documentary on a tyrannical dictatorship somewhere in the world. Yet, as I write this I have a copy of such a letter right in front of me. It is being sent by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to hundreds, perhaps thousands, of America’s heroes. In my capacity as Executive Director of the United States Justice Foundation (USJF) I have been contacted by some of these veterans and the stories I am getting are appalling.

Chris Dorner: A Mass Shooter Leftists Can Love

In the past several days, we’ve learned about how you too can gain a degree of public sympathy if you plan to embark on a killing spree and then go into hiding as you bide your time waiting to kill again: Write a “manifesto” dominated by anti-police rants, a “progressive” outlook towards Second Amendment freedoms and support for leftist politicians.

That’s what former Los Angeles Police Department officer Christopher Dorner, who is accused of killing Monica Quan, Keith Lawrence, and an as yet unnamed LAPD officer while wounding two others, has done. His sympathy-by-manifesto strategy has been alarmingly successful.

Dorner’s 11,000-word tome, addressed to “America,” was reportedly delivered to CNN’s Anderson Cooper on February 1. Much of its second half directs praise and scorn at a variety of politicians, celebrities and athletes while also, of all things, politicking for gun control and praising two of its proponents (spelling and grammar errors were not fixed in this and the following manifesto excerpt):

The time is now to reinstitute a ban (on assault weapons) that will save lives. Why does any sportsman need a 30 round magazine for hunting? Why does anyone need a suppressor? Why does anyone need a AR15 rifle?
… Mia Farrow said it best. “Gun control is no longer debatable, it’s not a conversation, its a moral mandate.”
Sen. Feinstein, you are doing the right thing in leading the re-institution of a national AWB.

Dorner also effusively praises President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, while showing contempt and disdain for “America,” the screed’s addressee, for not wholeheartedly supporting Dear Leader (paragraph breaks added by me):

You disrespect the office of the POTUS/Presidency and Commander in Chief. You call him Kenyan, mongroid, halfrican, muslim, and FBHO when in essence you are to address him as simply, President. The same as you did to President George W. Bush and all those in the highest ranking position of our land before him. Just as I always have.
You question his birth certificate, his educational and professional accomplishments, and his judeo-christian beliefs. You make disparaging remarks about his dead parents.
… You call his wife a Wookie. Off the record, I love your new bangs, Mrs. Obama. A woman whose professional and educational accomplishments are second to none when compared to recent First wives.

You call his supporters, whether black, brown, yellow, or white, leeches, FSA, welfare recipients, and ni$&er lovers. You say this openly without any discretion. Before you start with your argument that you believe I would vote for Obama because he has the same skin color as me, (expletive) you.
… Mr. President, I haven’t agreed with all of your decisions but of course I haven’t agreed with all of your predecessors decisions. I think you’ve done a hell of a job with what you have been dealt and how you have managed it. I shed a tear the night you were initially elected President in 2008.

Dorner also allocated space to praising the following broadcast media members, in order of appearance: Chris Matthews, Joe Scarborough, Pat Harvey, Brian Williams, Soledad O’Brien, Wolf Blitzer, Meredith Viera, Tavis Smiley, Cooper, the late Walter Crokite, Tom Brokaw, the late Peter Jennings, Willie Geist, and Piers Morgan.

While Dorner’s alleged acts and plans have properly appalled the vast majority of America, a distressingly large contingent of our fellow citizens considers him a hero.

As of 10 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, I located two newly-minted Dorner-friendly Facebook pages: “I Support Christopher Jordan Dorner” (over 7,700 “likes”), and “LAPD Cop Killer Christopher Dorner is A HERO” (over 300 “likes”). On Saturday, Breitbart.com’s Ben Shapiro identified several others. This is clear evidence that there is a dangerous strand of thought on the left which is perfectly fine with the commission of violent, murderous acts — as long as their perpetrators hold anti-establishment, anti-authority views.

By contrast, the pro-life community always roundly denounces the very few acts of violence visited upon abortion clinics and abortion doctors — of course other than those which clinic employees themselves commit by killing pre-born babies. Criminals who have bombed clinics and harmed or murdered their employees have never garnered any meaningful level of sympathy beyond a truly tiny and obviously unrepresentative fringe.

Public figures who should know better have either gone into a sympathy routine or chosen a strange form of neutrality towards Dorner. Jesse Jackson tweeted: “I understand your feelings of hurt and pain.” Noticeably absent was any recognition of the “hurt and pain” Dorner has inflicted on the families of Quan, Lawrence, and the unnamed slain police officer’s families. Bitter Bill Maher attempted to draw an equivalence between cold-blooded killing and a “headline” at FoxNews.com, which, from what I can tell, was really either never there or was planted by a commenter at a blog post. The aforementioned Ms. Farrow tweeted about “a murderer cop,” but “somehow” didn’t mention that Dorner views her favorably.

Print and web reports from the nation’s establishment press are following Farrow’s example. From reading their output, you wouldn’t even know that Dorner even mentioned President Obama, Mrs. Obama, or Vice President Joe Biden, let alone spent hundreds of words praising them. An unbylined Friday report at the Associated Press containing “some samples” from the manifesto which one would have hoped would be representative managed to suppress everything relating to our sitting president, his wife, and vice president, but managed to quote relatively brief mentions of George H.W. Bush, Chris Christie, Hillary Clinton, and Colin Powell, while also ignoring Dorner’s anti-gun stance. There isn’t a chance in Hades that the self-described “essential global news network” would have been so kind to a sitting Republican or conservative president, first lady, or veep.

Also recall that ABC’s Brian Ross initially attempted to pin the blame for the Aurora, Colorado theater murders on a Tea Party activist based only on his name, while his network and other have reported nothing about Dorner’s sympathy for Obama.

Just to be clear, no one Dorner named shares any blame for his actions. He bears that responsibility alone.

That’s not what the left or their media sympathizers would be saying if Dorner had invoked the views of conservative talk radio hosts, pundits, or politicians in a vain attempt to justify themselves.

President Obama on Monday tried to undercut National Rifle Association leaders and appeal directly to their membership, claiming gun owners support the "common-sense" gun control measures he's proposed -- and urging those supporters to "keep the pressure" on Congress. 

The president spoke in Minnesota, in his first campaign-style stop as part of a second-term push for new firearms laws. 

On the other side of that debate, the NRA has aggressively argued against Democrats' call for a new and stronger assault-weapons ban, a ban on high-capacity magazines and universal background checks. But in a risky move, the president used his speech Monday to try and sideline America's most powerful gun lobby. 

"The overwhelming majority of gun owners think (universal background checks are) a good idea," Obama said, referring to recent polling that shows most gun owners support background checks at gun shows and for private sales. "So if we've got lobbyists in Washington claiming to speak for gun owners saying something different, we need to go to the source and reach out to people directly. 

"We can't allow those filters to get in the way of common sense," Obama said. 

He urged the public to call Congress and voice support for the proposals. 

The NRA is unlikely to be drowned out. The group has vocally come out against universal background checks, saying that while they've supported such a system in the past, the overall process is too flawed. The group claims a universal background check system will put gun buyers through needless hassle, with little in the way of results. 

NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre told "Fox News Sunday" his group has tried unsuccessfully for such a check for two decades. 

"I've been in this fight for 20 years. We proposed it. I don't think it's going to happen," said LaPierre, who argued the mental health lobby and federal laws have prevented the names of people with potentially dangerous mental health problems from being put into a federal database. 

He also said that "criminals won't comply." 

LaPierre was skeptical about whether the Obama administration would take the gun-control legislation, if passed, a step further. 

"I think what they'll do is they'll turn this universal (background) check on the law-abiding into a universal registry on law-abiding people," he said. 

Without once mentioning the NRA by name, Obama on Monday said gun control supporters should tell their members of Congress that "there's no legislation to eliminate all guns." 

Despite opposition not only from the NRA but a number of Republican lawmakers, Obama tried to claim Monday that a "consensus" is forming around the kinds of gun control measures he's pushing in Washington, in the wake of the tragic Newtown, Conn., shooting. 

"No law or set of laws can keep our children completely safe, but if there's even one thing we can do, if there's just one life we can save, we've got an obligation to try," he said. 

The president unveiled his sweeping package of proposals for curbing gun violence last month. He vowed to use the full weight of his office to fight for the proposals, many of which face tough opposition. 

The reinstatement of an assault weapons ban, which expired in 2004, is expected to be the steepest climb for Obama. Universal background checks for gun purchasers may have an easier time passing Congress, though the NRA also opposes that measure. 

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, said Obama remained committed to the assault weapons ban and that it was too early to write off prospects for any parts of the package. 

"We all recognize that all the components of this are difficult and face challenges, some perhaps even more than others," Carney said. "But the president's support is firm and clear." 

Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy has said he hopes his panel can write gun legislation this month, though it's unclear what it will contain. 

Obama is expected to make more trips around the country to build support for his anti-gun violence measures. The outside group Organizing For Action, an offshoot of Obama's presidential campaign, is also promoting the proposals. 

White House officials say quick action on the president's gun measures gives them the best prospects for passing legislation in Congress. They fear that as time passes lawmakers will have less incentive to back the measures as the shock of the Newtown massacre fades. 

In addition to the gun control measures, Obama's anti-violence proposals also included increasing mental health resources, boosting funding for school security, and lifting restrictions that prevent the government from studying the causes of gun violence.

Now federal government urged to patrol streets

Longtime civil rights advocate Jesse Jackson is telling Barack Obama to return to his adopted home city of Chicago, where he worked as a community organizer, and stop the violence, including ordering street patrols by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, after reports revealed a surging wave of deadly crime there – and the lax enforcement by local police agencies.

The reaction from Jackson came after word spread that a 15-year-old honors student who had performed with her high school band at Obama’s inauguration in Washington on Jan. 21 had been shot and killed.

That meant as of that point, just a few days ago, there had been 42 homicides and 157 shootings so far in 2013 – in a city with arguably the toughest gun restrictions in the nation. There were 506 murders in the city in 2021, up 17 percent from the previous year.

Jackson, who lives in Chicago, told Reuters, “When the president shows up, it shows ultimate national seriousness.”

He also suggested that the way to clamp down on violence would be to have the DHS help patrol Chicago’s streets.

The TeaParty.org quoted from an Infowars.com report that Jackson already has joined the bandwagon calling on the federal government, in addition to sometimes patrolling local streets, to impose “draconian” firearms laws that would prevent “domestic terrorists” from inflicting harm.

Jackson, who previously unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination to be president and founded the Rainbow Coalition team of activists, said it is alarming that such weapons as a semiautomatic rifle are used by “domestic, homegrown terrorism.”

In a separate interview, Obama’s close crony, David Axelrod, admitted the city of Chicago is violent.

“One of the reasons we have such a huge problem in this city is that all around us are areas with weak laws and with very lax background checks and a lot of illegal guns flow into this city,” he said.

However, a report from Mark Konkol, a Pulitzer Prize winner who writes at the DNAinfo.com Chicago site, said the problem is that it’s easy to get away with shooting someone in Chicago.

“Last year, gunmen who shot and wounded someone got away without criminal charges 94 percent of the time, according to a DNAinfo.com Chicago analysis of police data,” he reported.

Only 211 of 1,893 aggravated battery with firearms cases were cleared during 2012, Konkol reported.

“Some say the low clearance rate sends the wrong message to Chicago triggermen,” Konkol reported.

He quoted former FBI agent and now Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis.

“If only 6 percent of people involved in nonlethal shootings are charged, it clearly doesn’t set much of a deterrent. What it says is you have the pretty good odds that you won’t wind up in court or wind up in jail.”

According to a report from WLS in Chicago, Chicago’s current number of shooting deaths compares unfavorably to the “city’s most notorious crime era, the one that has tarnished Chicago’s reputation around the world for a century.”

The report by Chuck Goudia said the city is “worse off now in the category of murder than at the height of the era that has driven Chicago’s reputation for almost a century, Capone’s ‘gangland’ Chicago.”

He cited two months, January 1929, which led up to the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, and January 2013.

“Forty-two people were killed in Chicago last month, the most in January since 2002, and far worse than the city’s most notorious crime era at the end of the Roaring Twenties,” he reported. “In January 1929 there were 26 killings…”

The report noted, “There was no real gun control back in Capone’s day.”

Police in Chicago have reported that the honors student, Hadiya Pendleton, was killed just as Congress was beginning work in earnest on a proposal that would impose more restrictions on guns – giving the rest of the nation an atmosphere more like Chicago’s level of weapons bans.

The campaign by Obama follows the shootings of 26 people, including 20 children, in Newtown, Conn., late last year.

Jackson said in the Reuters report that he was concerned that people are just “adjusting” to the violence.

He did not explain his call for DHS agents to be patrolling Chicago, but the agency was set up following the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on New York and Washington and it describes its mission as trying to protect the U.S. from accidents, natural disasters and terrorists.

Gun laws, however, appeared to work just fine in a Florida situation.

There, according to the Gainesville Sun, a man was shot and killed when he forced his way into a home.

Reports identified the attacker as Kenneth David Drown Jr., 21, and said he had gone to a home where his former girlfriend and their 9-month-old son lived. He brandished a shotgun, but eventually was disarmed and fled, the report said.

When he returned to the home with another shotgun, just a short time later, the homeowner and a teenager shot him.

President Obama will pitch his gun control proposals to the public and the law enforcement community Monday, as he calls for a ban on assault weapons and seeks to install universal background checks for gun buyers.

Obama will attempt to rally support for his plan in Minnesota, a Democratic-leaning state where officials have been studying ways to reduce gun-related attacks and accidents for several years. His visit to the Minneapolis Police Department's Special Operations Center will mark the first time Obama has campaigned on his controversial proposals outside of Washington.

Two of the country’s most influential voices in the gun control debate weighed in Sunday on the issue, but appeared no closer in reaching a compromise -- even on the issue of universal background checks.

Wayne LaPierre, the National Rifle Association’s chief executive, told “Fox News Sunday” his group has tried unsuccessfully for such a check for two decades.

“I’ve been in this fight for 20 years. We proposed it. I don’t think it’s going to happen,” said LaPierre, who argued the mental health lobby and federal laws have prevented the names of people with potentially dangerous mental health problems from being put into a federal database.

He also said that "criminals won't comply."

LaPierre was skeptical about whether the Obama administration would take the gun-control legislation, if passed, a step farther.

"I think what they'll do is they'll turn this universal (background) check on the law-abiding into a universal registry on law-abiding people," he said. "ObamaCare wasn't a tax until they needed it to be a tax. I don't think you can trust these people."

Retired Navy Capt. Mark Kelly, whose wife former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head by an emotionally disturbed gunman, argued for the background check. He told Fox that Giffords, a Democrat, and others might have been spared in the 2011 mass shooting in Tucson had the state entered the shooter’s name into a database.

The argument came nearly seven weeks after a gunman killed 20 children and six adults inside a Connecticut elementary school and five days after the first Senate hearing on the issue, following the Dec. 14 mass shooting.

Kelly also said he supports tightened background checks at gun shows and proposals by President Obama and fellow Democrats in the Senate to ban high-capacity magazines.

However, he would not fully commit to backing an automatic-weapons ban, which at this point does not appear to have enough widespread support to become law.

Kelly said semi-automatic weapons are “just too dangerous to be on the streets” for criminals, terrorists and the mentally ill.

“Gabby and I know this is going to be a hard problem to solve,” said Kelly, who also pointed out he served in the Middle East with such weapons.

"I don't think you'll find a stronger supporter of the Second Amendment than me," he said. "I fought for it."

The White House picked Minneapolis as the backdrop for Obama's remarks in part because of recent steps the city has taken to tackle gun violence, including a push for stricter background checks.

After a spike in violent crimes, the city launched a program in 2008 aimed at providing more resources for at-risk youth and helping rehabilitate young people who have already perpetrated crimes. In January, Minneapolis also hosted a regional summit on gun violence for elected officials from around the Midwest.

Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau and Hennepin County Sheriff Richard Stanek are also among the officials Obama has consulted as he pursues his anti-gun violence measures.

Media Fawns over Giffords' 'Handwritten' Notes...Written by Therapist

Today, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), who was famously shot by mentally ill Jared Lee Loughner in Tucson, Arizona, testified before the Senate on gun control. While Giffords and her husband, former NASA astronaut Mark Kelly, testified that they weren’t there as victims but as Americans, the reverse was clearly the case: as shooting victims, they have been trotted out by the left-leaning media to provide Cindy Sheehan-like “absolute moral authority.” The implication: disagree with the politics of these victims, and you don't care enough about them.

The media coverage of Giffords’ testimony exploited Giffords’ victimhood to the hilt. But The Atlantic led the way with a picture of her “handwritten notes,” which The Atlantic labeled “pen-scrawled words … deliberate … diligent … written on a surface all too familiar to schoolchildren: binder paper.” And, The Atlantic added, “She is trapped in her injury. And few things make that point more powerfully than a piece of binder paper and a hand-scrawled message.”

The Atlantic got the photo from the Washington Post, which had put it up. Buzzfeed, too, put up the photo, quoting the Americans for Responsible Solutions Facebook page:

It will be hard. But the time is now. Be bold. Be courageous. Americans are counting on you" - Like and share Gabby Giffords' handwritten testimony at the Senate Judiciary Committee on gun violence. Join her and Mark Kelly by texting SOLUTIONS to 90975.

Except that Giffords didn’t scrawl that message. Her speech therapist did.

That doesn’t mean that Giffords doesn’t think the things that her therapist wrote. It does show, however, how far the media is willing to go in order to exploit shooting victims to further the gun control agenda.

It is Giffords’ choice to be there. It is the Democrats’ and media’s and President Obama’s choice to exploit her presence. Then again, the left has never been shy about hiding behind victims to push their politics.

Debunking the Sandy Hook Debunkers

During the age of Obama, the major media have gone fully AWOL. If they fear that their reporting will lead to inconvenient discoveries, they simply stop their advance, lay down their notebooks, and disappear. This trend began in the Clinton years and picked up momentum after the 1994 electoral debacle, but the Clintons at least worried that the media might turn on them.
If Barack Obama ever had any such anxiety, the nonreporting on Fast and Furious, Benghazi and now Sandy Hook has had to reassure him. Sandy Hook is particularly disturbing because the truth is, or at least should have been, so accessible. This tragedy should never have spawned anything like a conspiracy theory, but it obviously has.
Protecting the major media's flank during retreat are many and sundry well-funded leftist blogs -- Huffington Post, The Daily Kos, Media Matters, and TPM among others. While the major media withdraw, the blogs attack those who might challenge the "narrative" the majors have left behind.
A case in point is a recent multi-media Huffington Post piece titled "Sandy Hook Conspiracy Theory Video Debunked By Experts." In the video intro, HuffPo editor Meredith Bennett-Smith laughingly dismisses the various alternate theories of what transpired at Sandy Hook. Says Bennett-Smith, "That is what conspiracy theorists love to do. They put out a lot of questions, but they don't necessarily provide a lot of answers." When there is a Democrat in the White House, alas, anyone who asks a question becomes a conspiracy theorist.
Like too many alleged fact checkers, Bennett-Smith addresses only the least significant of the challenges to the Sandy Hook narrative: the alleged use of crisis actors, the memorials that predated the shooting, the confusion about what weapon was in Adam Lanza's trunk. The "experts" she promises in the headline turn out to be other Obama-friendly fact checkers like David Mikkelson, founder of Snopes, and Robert Blaskiewicz, editor of a comparable blog called Skeptical Humanities. Absent in the piece is anyone who knows anything about guns or police work.
Predictably, what the HuffPo piece does not address are the two most troubling inconsistencies in the Sandy Hook reporting: the nature of the guns used and the presence or absence of a second shooter. Both questions have gained importance because of the White House's obvious political exploitation of a ginned up "assault weapon" hysteria.
As to the guns, on December 15, one day after the shooting, NBC's chief justice correspondent Pete Williams spoke with Today Show host Matt Lauer. Williams shared "new information" from a "couple of federal officials and state officials." Said Williams, "They say now that there were actually four handguns recovered inside the school, not just two as we were initially told; four handguns and apparently only handguns that were taken into the school." (Italics mine)
Williams said that Lanza also brought an "assault style, AR-15 style rifle" with him to school, but, he added, "We have been told by several officials that he left that in the car." In the days that followed, the story would shift to the AR-15, not as the exclusive weapon -- two handguns remained in the story -- but as "the primary weapon used in the attack." On December 19, CNN reported, "Police say Lanza's rifle used numerous 30-round magazines." By January 6, the Hartford Courant was reporting that Lanza used the handguns only to shoot himself.
This shift in reporting may be justified, and Williams' sources may have been wrong, but why has no one at NBC addressed the discrepancy? The police had plenty of time to establish the nature of the weapons used that first day. Williams cited multiple police sources. He is a seasoned reporter on a show that takes itself seriously. In retrospect, it is easy to see why authorities would want to bend the narrative to an AR-15, but why would anyone have chosen to mislead Williams on day two?
Equally under-reported is the disposition of the second suspect. On day one, the media were reporting that the police had apprehended a likely second shooter. As CBS News reporter John Miller said definitively, "They have a second person in custody." He pointed out that this was not at all unprecedented given that there were two shooters at Columbine. Fox News described this person as wearing a black jacket and camouflage pants. According to Fox, a SWAT team escorted him out of the woods.
The Alex Jones Channel, although not always reliable, put together a nonconspiratorial video using network news clips of the chase in the woods, the capture, and interviews with witnesses. ABC News interviewed both a well-spoken child and an adult who confirmed seeing the man in custody. "They did walk a guy out of the woods with handcuffs," said the man. The fellow then pointed the reporter to a police car where the alleged second shooter was still sitting.
Admittedly, the media got much wrong on day one: the name of the shooter, the mother's relationship to the school, the supposed murder of the father, but the media quickly walked this information back. If they retracted the stories about the four handguns or the second shooter -- or even explained the discrepancies -- I have been unable to find any clarification, and the Huffington Post piece provided none either.
Until I see firm evidence, I remain agnostic about the official Sandy Hook narrative. My investigations into TWA Flight 800 and the Oklahoma City bombing have taught me to be wary of an "evolving" story line. In those two tragedies, as is often the case, the early reporting was the most reliable.
With TWA Flight 800, for instance, all initial reporting pointed to a missile strike as the cause of the highly visible explosion that killed 230 people off the coast of Long Island in July 1996. In the weeks that followed, without any new evidence, the Clinton Justice Department ignored the 270 FBI eyewitnesses to a missile strike and shifted the storyline from a missile to a bomb.
The FBI talked exclusively to the New York Times, and the Times returned the favor by interviewing none of the eyewitnesses. The cherry-picked evidence led to the following above-the-fold headline four weeks after the disaster -- "Prime Evidence Found That Device Exploded in Cabin of Flight 800."
Although not as unnerving as a missile strike, the bomb scenario threatened the peace and prosperity message to be promoted at the Democratic National Convention just days away. Whether coordinated with the White House or not, the Times simply ceased reporting on the bomb. A month later, the official narrative shifted from a bomb to a center fuel tank explosion, a possibility that had been ruled out a month earlier. Like the networks at Sandy Hook, the Times never bothered to explain what happened to the evidence that led to the earlier conclusions.
In a similar spirit, days after the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, the Washington Post reported specific FBI testimony describing "eyewitness accounts of a yellow Mercury with McVeigh and another man inside speeding away from a parking lot near the federal building." (Italics mine)
The media, however, quickly lost interest in the swarthy John Doe No. 2. The likely reason is that If he proved to be an Islamic radical, it would be harder to blame the "Republican Revolution" for the bombing. At McVeigh's trial, the Justice Department did not put a single one of the many reliable eyewitnesses on the stand because every one of them saw McVeigh with his foreign-looking accomplice. Again, the media chose not to notice the discrepancy. As Clinton himself acknowledged, Oklahoma City-i.e. the reporting on Oklahoma City -- saved his presidency.
Bottom line: if the Democrat-media complex can turn an obvious missile strike into a mechanical failure and lose John Doe #2 to history, turning four handguns into an assault weapon and making a second shooter disappear is small beer.
