One person was killed and seven other people were injured Saturday evening during a shooting at Toronto's Eaton Centre, Toronto police have confirmed.
Two people are in critical condition, one with life-threatening injuries Const. Victor Kwong told reporters shortly before 9 p.m. local time.
Police have yet to apprehend a suspect.
Kwong said the injuries sustained by the victims were of "varying degrees," ranging from the one fatality to minor injuries sustained from "trampling or pushing."
Kwong said the police are now going over video evidence and will release more details as they are confirmed.
"As you can understand this is a very large area and there are a lot of video cameras to go through," said Kwong. "We have varying reports as well from the people who called 911, so we have to make sure what we give out is actually true."
Police Chief Bill Blair will be coming to the scene, said Kwong.
Police, firefighters and paramedics swarmed the busy shopping mall Saturday evening after they received a report of a shooting around 6:23 p.m.
Video from the scene showed paramedics attending to what appeared to be a victim inside the mall. Paramedics were also seen rushing a male on a stretcher into an ambulance.
The mall, located in the heart of downtown Toronto, was completely shut down and evacuated.
Police quickly sealed off several surrounding intersections.
Photos from the scene showed shoppers flooding out of the mall into the downtown streets, which are among the busiest in the city.
