A Weak Job Market, But Not a Collapsing One [yet]

 
After months of gloomy news on the employment front, the latest BLS jobs report offers evidence that the job market is far from robust but not collapsing either, observes Gary Burtless. But the continued loss of jobs in the public sector is problematic—government job losses will offset some or all of the payroll gains we see in the private sector. Overall, there is little reason for optimism on jobs, he says.
