Libyan President Moammar Qaddafi reportedly called on NATO to halt air strikes on his country or face a "catastrophe" according to Reuters.
Denouncing an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court last week for his alleged war crimes against opposition forces, Qaddafi called for NATO to back down or risk attack on its European soil.
"We advise you to retreat before you face a catastrophe," he said, addressing supporters by telephone from an undisclosed location. "I advise you to ground your planes ... and to hold discussions with the Libyan people."
Qaddafi has been implicated in directly ordering the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988, which resulted in the deaths of 259 passengers and 11 people on the ground.
