Hawaii: man is sucked into a geyser

The County of Maui is very saddened by the incident involving Mr. Potts and wishes extend its deepest sympathy to the victim's family for the hardship they are experiencing.  Since the July 9th incident, the Maui Visitors Bureau has reached out to the Potts family to try and provide them comfort during this very difficult time.
Despite Maui Fire Department's Search & Rescue team's three day search effort, they have found no sign of the victim.  Divers searched in close proximity to the rocky cliffs near the site during hazardous ocean conditions.  Unfortunately, their search efforts from the land, sea and air have turned up nothing.
Today search teams returned to the site again and noticed that visitors continued to gather around the blowhole area, despite being told that someone disappeared in that same location a few days ago.  We urge all visitors to the location to please use caution as an obvious danger exists at or near the blowhole.
Neither the Maui Visitors Bureau nor the County of Maui has promoted this area as a site to visit.  As we understand, the location may be privately owned and therefore, the County of Maui is unable to provide any signs or warnings of the obvious dangers the blowhole may present.
Again we offer our sincere condolences to the Potts family, and we ask that the public keep them in their prayers.
