On Wednesday, Senate Democrats voted to block a Republican bill designed to expedite offshore oil and gas drilling.
Five Republicans joined every Democrat in stopping the measure that would give consumers some relief at the gas pump: Jim DeMint, Mike Lee, Richard Shelby, Olympia Snowe and David Vitter voted against the measure.
The Hill notes that the bill was opposed by the White House over concerns the Interior Department would be hampered in it's ability to ensure safety standards are met.
