U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE HILLARY CLINTON SAYING:
"We were were encouraged by the apparent agreement between the Roman Catholic Church and the authorities in Cuba for the release of 52 political prisoners. I spoke last night the with Spanish Foreign Minister, Minister Moratinos, and we welcome this. We think that it's a positive sign. It's something that is overdue but nevertheless very welcome."
Clinton did not address the possibility of the U.S. ending the 50-year U.S. economic embargo of Cuba.
