Iran threatens to close key Gulf oil route

msnbc.com
Iran threatened on Tuesday to stop the flow of oil shipments through the crucial Strait of Hormuz if foreign sanctions were imposed on its crude exports over its nuclear ambitions.
The move could trigger military conflict with economies dependent on Gulf oil. The threat alone sent oil prices rising.
Western tensions with Iran have increased since a Nov. 8 report by the U.N. nuclear watchdog saying Tehran appears to have worked on designing an atomic bomb and may still be pursuing research to that end. Iran strongly denies this and says it is developing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Iran has defiantly expanded nuclear activity despite four rounds of U.N. sanctions meted out since 2006 over its refusal to suspend sensitive uranium enrichment and open up to United Nations nuclear inspectors and investigators.
Many diplomats and analysts believe only sanctions targeting Iran's lifeblood oil sector might be painful enough to make it change course, but Russia and China — big trade partners of Tehran — have blocked such a U.N. move.
Iran's warning on Tuesday came three weeks after EU foreign ministers decided to tighten sanctions over the U.N. watchdog report and laid out plans for a possible embargo of oil from the world's No. 5 crude exporter.
"If they (the West) impose sanctions on Iran's oil exports, then even one drop of oil cannot flow from the Strait of Hormuz," the official Iranian news agency IRNA quoted Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi as saying. More >>

Did Russia Help Iran Down Drone?

DEBKAfile/
Iran's electronic trap for snaring the Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel, one of the world's most secret drone programs in almost perfect condition, must be accounted a huge military and intelligence coup and a landmark in the long tussle over Tehran's nuclear program. It may have acquired the technology for its cyber attack from Pakistan, China, or even Russia.

Iran starts building a nuclear weapon: US and Israel tighten cooperation

Iran has embarked on "activities related to possible weaponization," said American sources Thursday, Dec. 22, thereby crossing the Obama administration's red line. This accounts for the dramatic reversal of the US administration's wait-and-see policy on attacking Iran, as articulated this week by Leon Panetta and top US soldier, Gen. Martin Dempsey. debkafile reports the US and Israeli are now in sync on action against Iran and have tightened cooperation.More >>

Iran toughens cyber challenge to US, claims superior drones

Iranian Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi Monday, Dec. 26, replied to Sunday's debkafile report which revealed Tehran's plan to use its big 10-day naval drill east of the Strait of Hormuz to test its vaunted cyber intelligence prowess against US warships. He said Iran has great capabilities in "all fields of national defense, including the use of intelligence drones." The Islamic Republic, he said, could employ aerial drones to counter any potential US-led covert war. But he did not refer to a full-scale war offensive. More >>

North Korea's Nukes: Does the Death of Kim Jong-il Mean Trouble for the U.S.?

North Korea nuke facility
As the body of North Korea's "dear leader" Kim Jong-il lies in state at his palace in Pyongyang, his youngest son Kim Jong-un takes control of the country's nuclear weapons program. Despite being named Kim's successor in 2009, Kim Jong-un remains a bit of a mystery to the West. One unanswered question: How much power does the younger Kim wield over the country's military?
To better understand what the succession of power in North Korea means for its nuclear program, Scientific American spoke with Frank von Hippel, a professor at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and co-founder of the school's Program on Science and Global Security. Von Hippel, a former assistant director for national security in the White House Office of Science and Technology during the Clinton administration, discusses new evidence of North Korea's nuclear capabilities, the possibility of U.S.-orchestrated regime change, and the amount of plutonium needed to ruin your day.  More >>

'Anonymous' hackers target US security think tank

LONDON – The loose-knit hacking movement "Anonymous" claimed Sunday to have stolen thousands of credit card numbers and other personal information belonging to clients of U.S.-based security think tank Stratfor. One hacker said the goal was to pilfer funds from individuals' accounts to give away as Christmas donations, and some victims confirmed unauthorized transactions linked to their credit cards.
Anonymous boasted of stealing Stratfor's confidential client list, which includes entities ranging from Apple Inc. to the U.S. Air Force to the Miami Police Department, and mining it for more than 4,000 credit card numbers, passwords and home addresses.
Austin, Texas-based Stratfor provides political, economic and military analysis to help clients reduce risk, according to a description on its YouTube page. It charges subscribers for its reports and analysis, delivered through the web, emails and videos. The company's main website was down, with a banner saying the "site is currently undergoing maintenance."
Proprietary information about the companies and government agencies that subscribe to Stratfor's newsletters did not appear to be at any significant risk, however, with the main threat posed to individual employees who had subscribed.
"Not so private and secret anymore?" Anonymous taunted in a message on Twitter, promising that the attack on Stratfor was just the beginning of a Christmas-inspired assault on a long list of targets.
Anonymous said the client list it had already posted was a small slice of the 200 gigabytes worth of plunder it stole from Stratfor and promised more leaks. It said it was able to get the credit card details in part because Stratfor didn't bother encrypting them — an easy-to-avoid blunder which, if true, would be a major embarrassment for any security-related company.
Fred Burton, Stratfor's vice president of intelligence, said the company had reported the intrusion to law enforcement and was working with them on the investigation.
Stratfor has protections in place meant to prevent such attacks, he said.  More >>

Afghanistan sets ground rules for Taliban talks

Afghanistan will accept a Taliban liaison office in Qatar to start peace talks but no foreign power can get involved in the process without its consent, the government's peace council said, as efforts gather pace to find a solution to the decade-long war.
Afghanistan's High Peace Council, in a note to foreign missions, has set out ground rules for engaging the Taliban after Kabul grew concerned that the United States and Qatar, helped by Germany, had secretly agreed with the Taliban to open an office in the Qatari capital, Doha.
U.S. officials have held about half a dozen meetings with their insurgent contacts, mostly in Germany and Doha with representatives of Mullah Omar, leader of the Taliban's Quetta Shura, this year to prepare the way for face-to-face talks between the group and the Afghan government.
A representative office for the group is considered the starting point for such talks and Doha has in the past served as a meeting ground for initial contacts. More >>

Four Proud Letters: The Dissolution of the USSR

Cuban defector to Newfoundland shows flair for hair

Globe and Mail/ Joan Sulliva/
Gander International Airport, a gem of mid-20th century modern design and a hub of global travel, was called the “Crossroads of the World.” The famous, from Nikita Khrushchev to Marilyn Monroe, lounged on its Herman Miller couches and strolled the Terrazzo floor. With advances in jet travel, celebrity sightings faded, but the airport retained its significant latitude and longitude on transatlantic flight paths.
By the late 1980s and early 1990s, Gander, Nfld., was a refuelling stop for airlines, such as Cubana and Aeroflot, flying from Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union to Cuba, and was the site of mass defections. Among the hockey players, Olympic-level swimmers, scientists, ballerinas and artists who asked for asylum were people such as Phan Thi Kim Phuc, known as the Vietnamese girl photographed as she ran screaming with the pain of a napalm attack; she was returning to her studies in Cuba. Another example was the Soviet concert pianist and chess grandmaster Igor Vasilyevich Ivanov, who simply ran from his plane when it made an emergency refuelling stop.
Then there was Juan Perez, who left Cuba at age 17 to study for – and complete – an electrical engineering degree in Russia, and who defected in 1990 at Gander as his flight was refuelling. He wanted to make a new home, and to forge a new career.
Perez wanted to become a hair stylist. More >>

Family 'honor killing' trial in Canada sparks debate over culture clash

msnbc.com staff and news service reports/
On a summer morning in 2009, in canal locks east of Toronto, police made a grisly discovery: In a submerged Nissan car were the bodies of three teenage sisters and a 52-year-old woman.
A joyride gone tragically wrong, claimed the father, Mohammad Shafia, 58, who reported the disappearance. An "honor killing," prosecutors allege. A murder trial is under way, heating up a national debate in Canada about how to better absorb immigrants into the cultural mainstream.
The United Nations reports 5,000 females a year are victims of honor killings around the world, including the U.S. where in February an Iraqi immigrant was convicted of second-degree murder for running over and killing his daughter in a suburban Phoenix parking lot because he believed she had become too Westernized.
In Britain, judges ruled on Dec 21. that a baby born to a Muslim couple having an affair had to be adopted to save it from being murdered by its mother’s family in a so-called honor killing, the Daily Telegraph reported.
In the Toronto trial, the prosecution accuses Afghan-born Shafia, his wife, and their 20-year-old son of killing the daughters because they dishonored the family by defying its disciplinarian rules on dress, dating, socializing and going online.
The older victim was Shafia's first wife, Rona Amir Mohammad, who was living with him and his second wife, Tooba Mohammad Yahya, 41, in Montreal. It was a polygamous relationship, the court has been told, and if revealed, could have resulted in their deportation.
The parents and son, Hamed, have pleaded not guilty to four counts of murder.
The family had left Afghanistan in 1992 and lived in Pakistan, Australia and Dubai before settling in Canada in 2007. Shafia, a wealthy businessman, married Yahya because his first wife could not have children. The second marriage produced seven children.
The months leading up to the deaths were not happy ones in the Shafia household, the court has heard. Zainab, the oldest at 19, was forbidden to attend school for a year because she had a young Pakistani-Canadian boyfriend, and she fled to a shelter, terrified of her father, the court was told.

How to keep losing Cuban-American votes

By Mauricio Claver-Carone
In today's Miami Herald:

During a September round-table with Hispanic journalists, President Obama was asked whether he was concerned about a backlash from his administration unilaterally easing sanctions towards Cuba despite the fact that the Castros’ regime is still holding American development worker Alan Gross as its hostage.

The president replied that he thinks easing sanctions is an “adequate” policy and that it is supported by Cuban Americans. That “support” is frequently reported and talked about in Washington, but it’s never reflected where it counts — the ballot box.

Consider this: President Obama received approximately 30 percent of the Cuban-American vote during the 2008 election, when just about every other constituency was overwhelmingly looking for “change” after eight years of the Bush administration. Obama won Florida by only 2.5 percent. Today, he’s treading on thin ice politically. Thus, any drop in Cuban-American support could easily cost him Florida. Given Florida’s political importance, perhaps the election.

Even so, his misguided response wasn’t particularly surprising. Obama’s political rationale is based on a theory that Cuban Americans — despite consistently voting to support candidates who favor maintaining strong sanctions towards Cuba’s dictatorship — favor more travel to and engagement with the island.

This unfounded theory has been hailed by anti-sanctions advocates and political theorists alike, both unfamiliar with the Cuban-American community and propped up by the push-polls they often commission. It has been going on for decades.

Back on Dec. 5, 1965, The New York Times ran its first story that “the very active anti-Castro groups in Miami have faded into virtual obscurity.”

Then, on Oct. 10, 1974, based on “a series of interviews with members of the Miami exile community” it reported:

“Virtually all of several dozen Cubans interviewed would like to visit Cuba either to see their relatives or just their country, which they have not seen for 10 years or more; and some segments of the exile community, especially young refugees brought up and educated here, are not interested in the Cuban issues.”

Sound familiar? There’s more:

On March 23, 1975: “For the first time significant number of exiles are beginning to temper their emotion with hardnosed geopolitical realism.”

On Aug. 31, 1975: “A majority of the persons interviewed — especially the young, who make up more than half of the 450,000 exiles here — are looking forward to the time when it will be possible for them to travel to Cuba. Even businessmen, who represent a more conservative group than the young, are thinking about trading with Cuba once the embargo is totally lifted.”

On July 4, 1976: “A new generation of professionals between 25 and 35 years of age has replaced the older exile leadership.”

And now, three decades later, Obama has fallen into the same trap. A few days ago, he went as far as threatening to shut down the federal government over a provision in the FY2012 Omnibus Appropriations bill that would have tightened Cuba sanctions.

Here are the facts: The Cuban-American community has never elected a candidate to federal office who has supported lifting sanctions. In the most recent example, during the 2010 congressional race in the heavily Cuban-American 25th District of Florida, Obama’s candidate — an outspoken cheerleader for his Cuba policy — got less than 18 percent of the Cuban-American vote. Watchdog warns Canada governments of fiscal crunch

OTTAWA (Reuters) - The finances of Canada's federal government and its 10 provinces are unsustainable over the long term and they will need to either raise taxes or cut spending, in part because the population is aging, the country's budget watchdog said on Thursday.
"Fiscal sustainability requires that government debt cannot ultimately grow faster than the economy," Kevin Page, the parliamentary budget officer, said in a report that looked at likely trends over the next 75 years.
Page's team projected government debt relative to the size of the economy over the long term in the light of current spending and taxes as well as projected demographic and economic trends.
"(Our) debt-to-GDP projection indicates that the current federal and provincial-territorial fiscal structure is not sustainable over the long term," he wrote.
"Addressing this fiscal gap and restoring sustainability to public finances would require permanent policy actions of 2.7 percent of gross domestic product, either to raise taxes, reduce overall program spending, or some combination of both."
Page said slower labor force growth caused by an aging population would reduce annual average real gross domestic product growth from the 2.6 percent observed over the 1977-2010 period to 1.8 percent over the 2011-2086 period.

USAID's Cuba democracy programs: Audit cost taxpayers nearly $150,000 per page?

enough money to defeat the Castro regime bombing Coke cans.

Tracey Eaton
"The Agency for International Development this month released only scant details of a Cuba program audit that cost taxpayers at least $1.47 million in 2009 and 2010.
In response to a March 18, 2011, Freedom of Information Act request, USAID sent me a heavily redacted 10-page report that omits most findings, recommendations and other key information, including the identity of the aid recipients named in the audit.
USAID said it could not find any other reports or paperwork related to the audit. I find it impossible to believe that a $1.47 million audit didn’t leave more of a paper trail, but let’s just suppose that it’s true. That would mean that the 10 pages posted above are worth nearly $150,000 each".  More >>

American doctor helps deliver medical supplies to Cuba

Retired Dr. Bernie Micke moves mattresses that will be sent to Cuba as part of a shipment of medical supplies.

Madison doctor Bernie Micke has allegedly retired after practicing medicine here for 33 years, but he continues to pursue a passion that's been with him for years — improving the medical services in Madison's sister city, Camaguey, Cuba.
Over the years, he and the Wisconsin Medical Project, a nonprofit organization whose origins began with the Sister Cities program, have made 30 trips to Cuba, bringing with them medical equipment and supplies for doctors and nurses who do everything from basic pediatric care to treating people suffering from cancer and other major illnesses.
Madison established its Cuban sister city connection in 1994. Camaguey is an inland city about the size of Madison. In the early years, Madisonians who made visits to Camaguey were hampered by the long-standing U.S. embargo on Cuba, which was imposed when Fidel Castro staged his revolution in 1960. It has been in effect since, although it has been modified in recent years.
During the early days of the 2000s, however, the George W. Bush administration ordered new limits on humanitarian efforts for Cuba, which resulted in the Madison group reorganizing as the Wisconsin Medical Project after identifying the critical need for medical supplies in Cuba.
Since then, Bernie Micke and friends have made their 30 visits to Camaguey and don't see an end in sight.

The Obama administration eased travel restrictions on Cuba earlier this year. But there are many limitations, and only groups are allowed.
The U-M trips are set for March 19-26 and March 26-April 2. A maximum of 36 people is allowed on each trip.
Travelers are limited to U-M alumni, family and friends. The price is $3,845 per person.
Other groups have licenses for travel to Cuba, too. The largest is Insight Cuba, www.insightcuba.com.

Kim Jong Un called 'supreme leader' of military

North Korea hailed Kim Jong Il's son as "supreme leader" of the 1.2-million strong military, ramping up its campaign to install the young man as the nation's next leader even as the mourning for his father continued a week after his death.
Kim Jong Un made a third visit Saturday to the palace where his father's body is lying in state — this time as "supreme leader of the revolutionary armed forces" and accompanied by North Korea's top military brass, according to the official Korean Central News Agency.
The new title and public show of support from the military leadership sent a strong signal that the nation will maintain Kim Jong Il's "military first" policy for the time being.More >>

Why we can't use machine learning to predict presidential elections

Off The Broiler

The UNIVAC 1 is a machine with important historical significance to the computer industry because it was the first mass-produced computer to be sold to corporations. It's also the computer that has the distinction of being the one that Walter Cronkite used to correctly predict the outcome of the 1952 Presidential Election.
By /
Slate ran an article outlining why you can’t build a model to predict presidential elections. The logic there still holds: You can predict any outcome you like depending which data you choose to use. One of the most powerful aspects of the algorithms we studied in this class was their ability to compute tremendous amounts of data and scale it down to the most important factors. Researchers also have ways of preventing their models from “overfitting” the data. In other words, one could probably create an algorithm that predicted past elections with great accuracy, but it might be so finely tuned to the quirks and turns of that historical data that it would be meaningless in 2012. It may seem preposterous to think that any mountainous pile of polls, unemployment rates, approval ratings, the stock markets, and a million other factors could, if correctly parsed by a smart machine, predict human behavior. But by and large, people behave rationally, and machines, if we learned anything, can model rational systems very well. And they’re getting better every day.

Tens of thousands gathered in central Moscow to protest against this month's Parliamentary election results. The mass rally was organized by opposition groups who claim the vote was rigged. 30 thousand people are reported to have turned up to demonstrate according to official data, but the opposition say the number is more than a hundred thousand. It's the second such protest - two weeks ago tens of thousands took to the streets to have their say. RT's Anissa Naouai reports from the scene of the demonstration.

Twitter of Terror: Somalia’s al-Shabaab unveils a new social media strategy for militants

Al-Shabaab, the Somali militant group heretofore best known for stoning teenage girls, blowing up soccer fans, and blocking food aid to their starving countrymen, is now on Twitter. You can talk to them if you like.
Al-Shabaab’s handle is HSMPress, HSM being the initials of al-Shabaab’s formal moniker. No one knows for certain that HSMPress—which has about 6,000 followers—speaks for al-Shabaab; the account holder’s identity is a mystery. I tweeted at HSMPress and emailed hsm.press@yahoo.com asking if the feed was genuine, and I got a polite reply affirming that it was. HSMPress has on several occasions tweeted what seems to be evidence of its authenticity, such as the identification cards of enemies killed in action and an audio clip of a captured Burundian soldier. If it’s not al-Shabaab, it does a very good al-Shabaab impression.

The U.S government seems to be taking the terrorist Twitter account seriously. The New York Times, citing anonymous American officials, reported this week that the U.S government was looking into shutting it down. I talked with a State Department spokeswoman who wouldn’t confirm that outright, but told me, “We are looking closely at the facts of this situation to determine what the appropriate next steps might be.”  More >>

Huge rally increases pressure on Putin

msnbc.com news services/
Tens of thousands demonstrators rallied in the Russian capital Saturday in another massive protest against election fraud, signaling a growing outrage with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's 12-year rule.
The demonstration in Moscow was as large as the one two weeks — the largest show of discontent the nation has seen since the 1991 Soviet collapse — although rallies in other cities in the far east and Siberia earlier Saturday drew much smaller crowds.
Rally participants gathered on a broad avenue some 1.5 miles from the Kremlin on a snowy day.
A stage at one side of the avenue featured placards reading "Russia Will be Free" and "This Election is a Farce".
Recent protests in Moscow and other cities have dented Putin's authority as he seeks to reclaim the presidency in next March's vote. The Kremlin has responded by promising a set of political reforms that would liberalize election rules.

Report: Russian spy chief joins nuclear missile firm

Col. Gen. Alexander Shlyakhturova

RIA Novosti/

The chief of Russia’s military intelligence (GRU), Col. Gen. Alexander Shlyakhturov, resigned from his post on Saturday, the Kommersant business daily reported.
According to the newspaper, Shlyakhturov, 64, will in the near future head the board of directors of the Moscow Institute of Heat Engineering (MIT), the developer of the Bulava ballistic missile and other strategic missile systems.
Now it is led by the head of Russia’s Federal Space Agency Roscosmos Vladimir Popovkin. His coming resignation is due to the fact that President Dmitry Medvedev said in April 2011 he wanted all government ministers to give up their seats on the boards of some of the country's biggest state firms.
Kommersant’s source in the General Staff said earlier that Shlyakhturov has the confidence of Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov. His appointment as a head of MIT is presumably aimed at resolving the conflict between the military authorities and producers around the state defense procurement.
Shlyakhturov has led the GRU since April 2009. The public knows nothing about General Shlyakhturov's biography and service record. Such tight secrecy implies that he is a career intelligence operative.
The name of the future chief of Russia’s military intelligence is not known yet.

Nuestro hombre en Pyongyang

Charlie Crane: Welcome to Pyongyang
Mas >>

Kim Jong-Il's son hailed as 'supreme commander'

North Korean media Saturday hailed the youngest son of late leader Kim Jong-Il as "supreme commander" of the powerful military, in the latest sign that the untested successor is cementing his hold on power.
Analysts said the move indicated that Pyongyang would maintain its Songun (military-first) policy, blamed for the deaths of thousands of people to starvation as the isolated regime diverts resources to its armed forces.
"We will uphold Comrade Kim Jong-Un as our supreme commander and general and we will bring the Songun revolution to a completion," the ruling communist party's Rodong Sinmun said in an editorial.
The newspaper urged Jong-Un to lead North Korea to "eternal victory."
It is the first time that one of the North's mouthpieces has used the title supreme commander -- a post previously held by his father -- for the new leader, already a four-star general despite only being in his late 20s.
"This shows that Jong-Un now has a firm grip on the military and the North is heralding this to the outside world," professor Kim Yong-Hyun of Dongguk University in Seoul told AFP.
"It also suggests that the North will continue with its Songun policy at least in the foreseeable future."
North Korea on Monday described the untested Jong-Un as the "great successor" after announcing the death of his father at age 69.
The latest acclamation is particularly significant because it came on the 20th anniversary of the declaration of Kim Jong-Il as supreme commander, said professor Yang Moo-Jin at Seoul's University of North Korean Studies.
"The editorial is aimed at preparing the people for Jong-Un becoming the supreme commander of the military and also announcing it to the outside world," he said. More >>

'Brain dead' student awakens hours after docs suggest pulling the plug

It’s an event being called a “modern day miracle” and the best Christmas present “ever ever ever”. Sam Schmid, a 21-year-old University of Arizona student, awoke from a coma just hours after the doctors broached the subject of taking him off life support and organ donation with his parents.
Good Morning America reports that Schmid was in a car crash in October that killed two fellow passengers, leaving him with a brain injury that had “all the odds stacked against him,” according to his neurosurgeon, Dr. Robert Spetzler. Now doctors expect Schmid to make a full recovery.
“It seems like we were being led down a path to plan for the worst and that things were not going to work out,” said John Schmid. “The miracle, to put it bluntly, was that in a matter of seven days, we went from organ donation to rehab. What a roller coaster it was.”
Watch the ABC News report including Schmid’s comments on his recovery:

What Is the 13-Pound Metal ‘Space Ball’ That Left a 12.5-Foot Crater in Namibia?

dailymail.co.uk
It is a mysterious ball that looks like a prop from a science fiction film - and nobody can explain where it came from.
Police have been left baffled after a strange metal sphere fell to the ground in a remote area of northern Namibia, Africa.
It weighs around 13lbs, has a diameter of 14 inches and its rough surface looks like ‘two halves welded together’, said police forensics director Paul Ludik.
The baffling metal sphere, pictured made a crater 12 inches deep where it fell

When the ball came down it caused a crater 12 inches deep and 13ft wide, although it was found some 60ft away.
Locals claimed to have heard several explosions in the days before it was discovered by a farmer on his land.
The find sparked speculation on the internet that it could finally be proof of extra terrestrial life, even though it bore a passing resemblance to the head of a character from the children’s series Teletubbies.
Some claimed that it could be an escaped particle from the Large Hadron Collider, reindeer droppings or a Quaffle from the Harry Potter films.
Others - arguably with more accuracy - guessed it was a hydrazine tank, which are used on space satellites to store the flammable chemical.
Mr Ludik however was quick to point out that more tests need to be done and that NASA and the European Space Agency had been notified.
The sphere could be a hydrazine tank used on satellites such as the one pictured

He said that the ball was discovered a month ago but it has only now been made public. Whilst it was made of a ‘sophisticated material’, it was something that was known to mankind.
He explained that the explosion heard by locals could have been the sonic boom when it broke the sound barrier coming down to Earth, or by the impact on the ground.
The compound appeared to be a ‘metallic compound normally used in space vehicles,’ although he would not be surprised it it was actually from a normal aircraft.
Police deputy inspector general Vilho Hifindaka added that the sphere, which landed 480 miles from the Namibian capital Windhoek, did not pose any danger.
He said: ‘It is not an explosive device, but rather hollow, but we had to investigate all this first’.

Earlier this year Britain and the rest of the world was put on alert when one of NASA’s satellites broke up and crashed to Earth.
Huge chunks of titanium up to 350lbs from car-sized Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite tore through the atmosphere at 1,800mph but the best NASA could guess was that they landed somewhere south of Inverness on the equator.
To try and reassure the public it also revealed that the odds of being hit were one in 3,200 - more likely than getting a hole-in-one in golf.
Weeks later Germany’s Roentgen satellite crashed to Earth and split up into 30 huge chunks including one which weighed 880lbs.

(el-alto-sueño);

le pidieron las piernas

duras y nudosas

¿No me envidias?”.

Has sufrido mucho, hombre, entra, te has ganado el cielo.
