TOPEKA, Kan. — A sperm donor in the U.S. is fighting an effort to force him to pay child support for a child conceived through artificial insemination by a lesbian couple.
William Marotta told The Topeka Capital-Journal newspaper he’s “a little scared about where this is going to go, primarily for financial reasons.”
When the 46-year-old donated sperm to Angela Bauer and Jennifer Schreiner in 2009, Marotta relinquished all parental rights, including financial responsibility to the child. When Bauer and Schreiner filed for state assistance in Kansas this year, the state demanded the donor’s name so it could collect child support for the now 3-year-old girl.
The state contends the agreement between Marotta and the women is not valid because Kansas law requires a licensed physician to perform artificial insemination.
“If a sperm donor makes his contribution through a licensed physician and a child is conceived, the donor is held harmless under state statue. In cases where the parties do not go through a physician or a clinic, there remains the question of who actually is the father of a child or children,” Angela de Rocha, a spokeswoman for the Kansas Department for Children and Families, said in a statement.
A hearing on a motion by Marotta’s attorneys to dismiss the case is scheduled for Jan. 8
Bauer and Schreiner have said they fully support Marotta’s efforts to fight the state’s request. When Bauer was diagnosed in March with what she calls “a significant illness” that prevents her from working, Schreiner sought health insurance for their daughter from the state. The DCF told Schreiner if she didn’t provide the sperm donor’s name, it would deny any health benefits because she was withholding information.
Marotta said Monday he doesn’t resent Schreiner for giving the state his name.
“I resent the fact that Jennifer was pressured into doing that in the first place,” he said. “That was wrong — wrong by the state.”
Marotta and his wife, Kimberly, have no biological children but care for foster children.

Adela Hernandez, a biologically male Cuban who has lived as a female
since childhood, served two years in prison in the 1980s for
"dangerousness" after her own family denounced her sexuality.
This month she made history by becoming the first known transgender
person to hold public office in Cuba, winning election as a delegate to
the municipal government of Caibarien in the central province of Villa
Clara.
In a country where gays were persecuted for decades and sent to grueling
work camps in the countryside, Hernandez, 48, hailed her election as
yet another milestone in a gradual shift away from macho attitudes in
the years since Fidel Castro himself expressed regret over the treatment
of people perceived to be different.
"As time evolves, homophobic people — although they will always exist —
are the minority," Hernandez said by phone from her hometown.
Becoming a delegate "is a great triumph," she added.
Because she has not undergone sex-change surgery, Hernandez is legally
still a man in the eyes of the Cuban state: Jose Agustin Hernandez,
according to the civil registry. Hernandez, who switched back and forth
between feminine and masculine pronouns when referring to herself during
an interview, said she hasn't made a decision to seek an operation but
doesn't rule it out either.
Hernandez won office in early November by taking a runoff vote 280-170.
Her position is the equivalent of a city councilor, and her election
makes her eligible to be selected as a representative to Parliament in
early 2013.
For years after the 1959 Cuban Revolution, authorities hounded people of
differing sexual orientation and others considered threatening, such as
priests, long-haired youths and rock 'n' roll enthusiasts. But there
have been notable changes in attitudes toward sexuality.
"I would like to think that discrimination against homosexuals is a
problem that is being overcome," Fidel Castro told an interviewer some
years ago.
Since 2007 the island has been covering sex-change surgery under its
free health care system. Last year a gay man and a transsexual woman
whose operation was paid for by the state garnered headlines for their
first-of-its kind wedding.
The country's most prominent gay rights activist is Mariela Castro, Fidel's niece and current President Raul Castro's daughter.
As director of Cuba's National Center for Sex Education, Mariela Castro
has instituted awareness campaigns, trained police on relations with the
lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender community and lobbied parliament to
legalize same-sex unions.
Born in a sugar town in central Cuba, Hernandez was disowned by her
family and said it was her own father who reported her to authorities,
leading to her imprisonment. She had to change towns and defend herself
physically from attacks.
Over the decades she found work as a hospital janitor, then as a nurse
and most recently as an electrocardiogram technician. She also
established herself in the community and as a longtime member of her
neighborhood watch committee, which helped her win acceptance and laid
the groundwork for her election.
"My neighbors know me as Adela, the nurse," Hernandez said. "Sexual
preference does not determine whether you are a revolutionary or not.
That comes from within."
As an elected official she promised to advocate for her constituents'
interests, but said she also wants to be a voice for gay rights.
"I represent a community but I will always keep in mind the defense of gays," Hernandez said.

Yes, Yunel Escobar was dumb enough to write on his face in Spanish
something akin to “You are a faggot,” thus enabling every hypocrite and
self-indulgent victim fetishist to moan about the horrors of homophobia.
Big money and big entertainment will do pretty much anything to not
offend the gay community these days, and in this case their acts of
ostensible contrition were positively nauseating.
Frankly, I don’t think Escobar intended a slur on homosexuals, and
was probably not even thinking of homosexuality when for some perverse
reason he wrote these nasty words beneath his eyes. It was probably some
silly, jock, inside joke.
When it’s used by teenage boys, the word faggot generally means idiot
or loser. I’ve heard kids who are trendily pro-gay and pro-same-sex
marriage use the term “fag” with no apparent understanding that there is
a connection. I’ve also heard gay people use it about other gays. The
word will disappear naturally, as is right.
It should never have been written, and no professional sports team
should allow an employee to write anything, even innocuous, on his face.
But the story ends there really.
Rogers, the owners of the Toronto Blue Jays, fined the guy $90,000 and suspended him for three games, which is fair enough.
Unlike in 2011 when television sports anchor Damian Goddard was fired
from Sportsnet, also owned by Rogers, just hours after he tweeted his
support for “the traditional and true meaning of marriage.”
He had been defending a hockey player’s agent who was receiving death
threats and abuse for refusing to support a pro-gay-marriage campaign.
It could have been a coincidence of course, but we’ll leave that to the human-rights commission where it is being considered.
Goddard never used an offensive word, and merely expressed his
opinion of marriage. Perhaps he should have written it on his face — he
may well still be employed!
As for Escobar — bad word, move on. Stop the grovelling, stop the
nonsense, get it in proportion. After all, it’s nothing like what
happened to Peter Vidmar.
You didn’t know? OK, let me explain. Vidmar is one of the most
successful athletes in U.S. history. He was chosen to be the chef de
mission of the U.S. Olympic team in the last Olympics, as was gay
activist Mark Tewksbury for Team Canada.
But Vidmar is a Mormon, and it was discovered that he had made a
small donation to the Proposition 8 campaign, enshrining marriage as the
union of a man and woman.
He has never called anyone a nasty name, never treated gay people
badly, is an example of a gentleman in sport. But he opposed gay
marriage, and after relentless pressure he was forced to resign.
So who are the bullies, who are the victims, in sport and sexuality?
Nobody should face or feel discrimination in professional sport, but can
we please stop magnifying a dumb gesture into an act of sociological
and moral barbarism?
Oh, and as for compulsory sensitivity training, the Jays are in far
greater need of baseball training. The genuine victims are the fans.

In what appears to be an extraordinary reversal of military policy,
members of the U.S. armed forces say they have been given permission by
their commanding officers to march in a “gay pride” parade Saturday –
while wearing their service-issued uniforms.
Meanwhile, WND has learned, one of the top officers who approved the decision has since entered retirement.
The top echelons of the U.S. Air Force approved a request by a senior
recruiter based in Arizona to join “a uniformed, active-duty military
contingent” in a San Diego homosexual pride event, the San Diego Union
Tribune reported.
The decision breaks down generations of tight limits on when and
where a service member is allowed to appear in uniform, and appears to
stray from the Department of Defense regulations
on the use of uniforms, dated 2005 and signed by Defense Undersecretary
David S.C. Chu, which says using the U.S. military uniform is
prohibited in a number of scenarios.
Those include “in connection with furthering political activities,
private employment or commercial interests, when an inference of
official sponsorship of the activity or interest may be drawn.”
Using the uniform also is banned “When wearing the uniform may tend
to bring discredit upon the armed forces,” and while former members are
allowed to wear them for funerals, memorial services, weddings, and
“other parades … in which any active or reserve United States military
unit is taking part,” the regulations state, “wearing of the uniform or
any part thereof at any other time or for any other purpose is

Despite
the fact Barack Obama is married with two children, Newsweek magazine
is dubbing him “The First Gay President” on its latest cover, crowning
him with a rainbow-colored halo.
The cover comes in the wake of Obama’s newly declared support for homosexual marriage in America.
The edition, which hits newsstands Monday, features a column by
Andrew Sullivan, an openly homosexual self-titled conservative political
pundit.
“When you step back a little and assess the record of Obama on gay
rights, you see, in fact, that this was not an aberration. It was an
inevitable culmination of three years of work,” Sullivan said in a
statement about his article.
“He had to discover his black identity and then reconcile it with his
white family, just as gays discover their homosexual identity and then
have to reconcile it with their heterosexual family,” he wrote,
discussing similarities between the president and the homosexual
community.
Obama’s declaration that he’s now backing same-sex marriages is the
first time a sitting president has expressed such an opinion.
“It’s easy to write off President Obama’s announcement of his support
for gay marriage as a political ploy during an election year. But don’t
believe the cynics,” representatives from Newsweek told Politico.
Obama’s announcement came just days after Vice President Joe Biden
indicated he was “absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying
men, women marrying women and men and women marrying are entitled to
the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties.”
Newsweek has a history of controversial covers.
On Dec. 15, 2008, it featured a Holy Bible with a rainbow-colored
bookmark, with an associated article titled, “The Religious Case for Gay
Marriage.”
This week’s cover is prompting a lot of reaction online already.
“This is the best,” said Wilder Napalm of Louisville, Ky. “The left
wing media is doing everything in their power to portray this as a good
thing for Obama when in fact this is a disaster. He never had any
intention of openly supporting gay marriage, if he did he would have
done it long ago. But good old Joe stepped in it again. He left Obama no
choice but to support gay unions or risk losing the support of the gay
community. I’ll bet Obama could kill Biden about now.”
“I am surprised,” says John Wolf of St. Louis. “Newsweek has six
subscribers? I dropped them when they made up stuff for Obama during the
election.
And Larry in California noted: “Clinton was our first black
president, according to author Toni Morrison. And Chris Matthews says we
can’t vote Obama out because he’s our first black president. I’m
confused. Is Obama our first black president, or our first gay
president, or our first affirmative-action president?”
Unlike Barack Obama, I have been an unwavering public supporter of gay marriage since first writing on the subject on my blog almost ten years ago. I remain so today. It is a clear human rights issue to me.
That said, I think same-sex marriage is being shamelessly exploited by the president whose constant vacillations on the topic are the stuff of farce — first supporting it, then not, then “evolving” a policy, then being absolutely against it (only a year ago, according to a spokesperson) and finally, May 9, 2012, claiming to have sufficiently “evolved” to be for it.
Liar.
Barack Obama has been for same-sex marriage (to the extent he is for anything other than himself) since he declared himself a supporter back in the nineties in Chicago. He just changed his mind publicly for electoral expediency. Now he is changing his mind back for the same reason, but it’s amped up. He wants to put Mitt Romney – who polls are showing to be a formidable presidential opponent – on the spot on an issue the governor would rather not talk about (and probably shouldn’t).
Obama and his people are seeking to change the subject of this election from the dreadful financial condition of our country to same-sex marriage or anything else that sticks.
Don’t fall for the bait.
In Romney’s words: “It’s the economy — and we’re not stupid.” (We better not be!)
Keeping the focus, however, won’t be easy. You can bet the media will be beating the drum constantly on this one, gay marriage being a far more emotionally potent issue than the trivial nonsense they’ve been flogging of late, dogs on car roofs, etc.
Moreover, our gay friends and relations are going to be angry about being asked to have their rights put on the back burner again. It may be of little use to remind them that they too are suffering from the unending economic meltdown whose greatest indicator is the similarly unending decline in the Labor Particiption Rate. The story about President Barack Obama’s bi-sexual past will not go away. Now, in an exclusive interview with The Globe, Norma Jean Young, the 76-year old mother of the late Trinity United Church of Christ choir director Donald Young, has spoken out and declared that persons trying to protect Obama murdered her son at the height of the 2007 Democratic presidential primary to protect Obama from embarrassing revelations about his homosexual relationship with her son. Donald Young’s bullet-ridden body was found in his Chicago apartment on December 23, 2007, in what appeared to be an assassination-style slaying.
Norma Jean Young revealed to The Globe that her son Donald, who was openly gay, was a “close friend” of Obama. Mrs. Young also believes the Chicago Police Department has not placed a high priority on finding the killers of her son. Mrs. Young, who is, herself a former employee of the Chicago Police Department, told The Globe that, “There is more to the story,” adding, “I do believe they are shielding somebody or protecting someone.”
The Globe’s revelations are consistent with information obtained by WMR during a May investigation conducted in Chicago. On May 24, WMR reported:“President Obama and his chief of staff Rahm Emanuel are lifetime members of the same gay bath house in uptown Chicago, according to informed sources in Chicago’s gay community, as well as veteran political sources in the city.” The report added, “WMR spoke to several well-placed sources in Chicago who reported that Jeremiah Wright, the pastor of Obama’s former church of 20 years, Trinity United Church of Christ (TUCC) on Chicago’s south side, ran what was essentially a matchmaking service for gay married black professional members of the church, including lawyers and businessmen, particularly those with children. The matchmaking club was called the ‘Down Low Club’ but references to it over the phone and email simply referred to the group with the code phrase ‘DLC.’ The ruse, according to our sources, was to make anyone who was eavesdropping on the communications [FBI wiretaps in the Rod Blagojevich case likely contain such references] believe that the references were to the Democratic Leadership Council, also known as the DLC . . . Among the members of the gay ‘DLC’ were Obama and TUCC’s choir director, Donald Young, an openly gay man who reportedly had a sexual relationship with Obama. Two other gay members of the church were Larry Bland and Nate Spencer. Young and Bland were brutally murdered, execution style, in late 2007. Bland was murdered on November 17, 2007 and Young on December 24, 2007. The latter was killed by multiple gunshot wounds. Spencer reportedly died on December 26, 2007, official cause of death: ‘septicemia, pneumonia, and HIV.’”
Larry Sinclair, the gay man who claimed to have had two sexual encounters with Obama in Chicago in 1999, wrote a book, “Cocaine, Sex, Lies & Murder,” in which he states that Obama was linked to Young’s murder. Sinclair wrote that he was in contact with Young shortly before his murder and Young revealed his relationship with Obama. At the time of his revelations about Obama at a National Press Club news conference, WMR doubted the veracity of Sinclair’s story due to the absence of corroborating evidence coupled with a bizarre news conference. However, since that time, WMR has received corroboration from a number of sources in a number of locations, including Chicago, Alabama, Georgia, and Washington, DC. WMR has received information that various competing camps, including the Hillary Clinton and John McCain campaigns, attempted to co-opt Sinclair and his revelations for their own political purposes. Sinclair, it should be noted, has not deviated from his original story or charges against Obama.
On June 19, 2008, WMR reported: “WhiteHouse.com held a news conference following Sinclair’s at which a video of Sinclair’s polygraph was to be shown. After experiencing technical difficulties with the video presentation, Parisi abruptly canceled the news conference and took no questions.” The aborted news conference was as bizarre as Sinclair’s. Sinclair was arrested by Washington, DC police following his news conference based on a warrant from Delaware issued by Vice President candidate Joseph Biden’s son, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden. The Delaware charges against Sinclair were later dropped.
Sinclair’s book is now the subject of a defamation lawsuit [Daniel Parisi, et al v. Lawrence W. Sinclair a/k/a "Larry Sinclair," et al] brought by Dan Parisi, the proprietor of the website, Whitehouse.com, who is mentioned in Sinclair’s book with regard to his involvement in polygraphs administered to Sinclair after he made his allegations against Obama public during the 2008 presidential campaign. The lawsuit is being handled by the politically powerful Patton & Boggs law firm, the same firm that represented George W. Bush’s top political adviser Karl Rove in the Valerie Plame Wilson/CIA leak, and has been filed against Sinclair, his publishing company, and distributors, including Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Sinclair is currently a resident of Florida.
The lawsuit against Sinclair has been assigned to Judge Richard Leon, the Republican deputy chief minority counsel on the House Select Committee to Investigate Covert Arms Transactions with Iran, aka, the Iran-contra scandal. From 1988 to 1989, he served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General and from 1992 to 1993 was the Republican chief minority counsel on the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s October Surprise Task Force investigating the 1980 Reagan-Bush campaign’s secret dealings with Iran to ensure the defeat of President Jimmy Carter. Leon Leon was nominated for the federal bench by President George W. Bush on September 10, 2001. Leon’s involvement in so many high-level cover-ups of White House misconduct makes him an illogical choice to hear a case involving serious allegations against President Obama.
Note: Blagojevich’s defense in his federal corruption trial is slated to begin today in Chicago. Judge James Zagel has denied the defense’s request for all the government’s wiretaps to be played. The tapes, as previously reported by WMR, contain some earthy references to Obama’s and his chief of staff Rahm Emanuel’s homosexual habits.
Sinclair has told WMR that he believes the Obama White House is trying to have his book withdrawn from circulation to avoid any further embarrassments about Obama’s homosexual past and the possible involvement of his top lieutenants in Young’s murder. The Globe reported in May 2008 that a top Chicago private detective said he believed Young was “rubbed out” because of his relationship with Obama. Sinclair has echoed the private eye’s beliefs about Young and Obama. The Globe reports that before his death, Young was planning to flee to Africa to teach. The information was provided to The Globe by Young’s mother, who also now fears for her life and plans to leave her Peoria, Illinois home for a secret location. Mrs. Young said the Chicago police have warned her that her life is in danger.
