Immigration Bill Gives Amnestied Residents 'Immediate' Access to Welfare
The immigration bill introduced to the Senate a week and a half ago would, if passed, allow illegal immigrants to access state and local welfare benefits immediately, Breitbart News has learned. The financial impact of allowing potentially millions of immigrants onto state and local public assistance could overwhelm these programs' budgets.
‘‘(4) TREATMENT OF REGISTERED PROVISIONAL IMMIGRANTS.—A noncitizen granted registered provisional immigrant status under this section shall be considered lawfully present in the United States for all purposes while such noncitizen remains in such status, except that the noncitizen—
‘‘(A) is not entitled to the premium assistance tax credit authorized under section 36B of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986;
‘‘(B) shall be subject to the rules applicable to individuals not lawfully present that are set forth in subsection (e) of such section; and
‘‘(C) shall be subject to the rules applicable to individuals not lawfully present that are set forth in section 1402(e) of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (42 U.S.C. 18071).”

U.S. Senators Meet With Rosa Maria Paya
Senators Renew Call for Investigation into Death of Payá's Father, Oswaldo, A Political Reformer
Washington, D.C. – A bipartisan group of Senators met with Rosa Maria Payá, the daughter of Cuban political reformer Oswaldo Payá, in the U.S. Capitol today, to discuss democratic reforms in Cuba and to reiterate their call for an investigation into Mr. Payá’s troubling death last year in which he, and youth activist Harold Cepero, were killed in a suspicious car accident.
The meeting today was hosted by Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and was attended by Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL). Last month, the four Senators sent a letter to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, urging the Commission to investigate Mr. Payá’s death. A copy of the letter is available here.
“Oswaldo Payá’s death has meant other courageous Cuban democracy leaders must continue the work of fighting for their freedom and exposing the regime’s cruelty. It is our job to support these leaders that Oswaldo inspired and laid the groundwork for, while holding the regime accountable for his death,” said Rubio. “Despite her tragic loss, Rosa Maria Payá is a courageous woman who deserves the support of the United States and entire international community in getting real answers on Oswaldo’s death through an independent investigation.”
“Oswaldo Payá’s death was a tragic blow to the peaceful and courageous democracy movement in Cuba and deserves a full and open investigation,” Durbin said. “Rosa Maria’s tireless efforts to call attention to her father’s death show that efforts to reform the political climate in Cuba will not be easily silenced. We stand with Oswaldo, Rosa Maria, and the thousands of Cubans calling for peaceful reforms in their country.”
“Rosa Maria’s commitment to carry on her father’s work without fear is demonstrative of her ceaseless commitment and that of many in Cuba’s peaceful dissident community to demand political reform in Cuba. Unfortunately, oppression in Cuba in the last year has escalated with more violent attacks, detentions and arrests. The murder of Oswlado Paya is symbolic of the ends to which the regime will go to threaten and obstruct the growing chorus of voices calling for change in Cuba. I both honor and admire the work being carried on by Rosa Maria in honor of her father and was very pleased to welcome her to the Capitol today and hear her father’s story,” Menendez said.
“Oswaldo Payá will forever be remembered as one of Cuba’s best known dissidents,” Nelson said. “But the causes that he championed — freedom of speech, press and enterprise — continue to elude the Cuban people. That’s why a thorough independent investigation into his death is so critical. Without it, further reform is easily undermined or avoided, altogether.”
Oswaldo Payá was the founder of the Verela Project, a petition drive that peacefully sought greater political freedom for Cubans. The Cuban Constitution guaranteed the right to a national referendum on any proposal that achieved 10,000 or more signatures from Cuban citizens eligible to vote. In May 2002, the Varela Project delivered 11,020 valid signatures to the Cuban National Assembly calling for an end to four decades of one-party rule.
As a result of these efforts, Mr. Payá and his colleagues faced sustained harassment and as many as 25 of its leaders were jailed as part of massive round up of dissidents, known as the Black Spring. Payá’s nonviolent attempt to seek political change was celebrated around the world, earning him a number of awards including the European Union’s Sakharov Prize and a Nobel Peace Prize nomination from former Czech President Václav Havel.
Since his death, Rosa Maria Payá has traveled the world in an attempt to highlight her father’s death and the need for political reforms in Cuba. In March, Ms. Payá appeared before the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, where she asked the international body to investigate her father’s death.

WP: Menendez Allegations Are False
the raw story |
An escort who appeared on a video claiming Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) paid her for sex has told Dominican Republic police that she was instead paid to make up the claims in a tape recording and has never met or seen the senator before, according to court documents and two people briefed on her claim.
The woman identified a lawyer who approached her and a friend to make the videotape, according to affidavits obtained by the Post. That man has in turn identified another lawyer who gave him a script for the tape and paid him to find women to fabricate the claims, the affidavits say.
Now, the question remains (as journalist Tracey Eaton posed in an effort to provide balance after collaborating with a pro-Castro group that was targeting Senator Menendez):
If the informant [using the pseudonym "Peter Williams"] is lying about Menéndez, he has done a serious injustice to the senator and should be punished. American authorities should track him down and prosecute him for making false statements to a federal agency. That is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Get 'off your ass': Boehner blasts Senate Democrats
"I don't think the president is focused on finding a solution to the sequester," he said. "The president has been traveling all over the country, today by going down to Newport News in order to use our military men and women as a prop in yet another campaign rally to support his tax hikes."

The Corrupt Origins of the Melgen-Menendez Port Deal
The saga of the Dominician port security deal that has embroiled Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and his friend and major donor Dr. Salomon Melgen began in December 2000 when retired Major General Javier Juan Rene Beauchamp, Commander of the Dominican Armed Forces from 1975 to 1978 and "one of the strong men of the government of 12 years of Joaquín Balaguer," was assassinated at his home in the Dominican Republic just months after Hipolito Mejia was elected as the country's new president.
Col. Francisco Alberto Caamano |
Caamano |
The agreement approved by the National Congress on 18 July, 2002, under the signatures of Jose Miguel Soto Jimenez, representing the Dominican government, and for ICSSI, S.A., Ms. Belinda Galvan the widow of the former Secretary of the Armed Forces, Juan Rene Beauchamp Javier, gave the latter the right to check freight arriving in the seaports using the x-ray system for 10 years (with an automatic renewal for 10 more years). . .The contract also had two addendums. The first, on 15 January 2003, added two articles to the original project, by which the State was obliged to reimburse the company, in case that they should decide to break the contract, with the total cost of each inspection not carried out during the remaining time on the contract . . .The second addendum of 14 August 2003 modified . . . the rates, lowering the charge for checking empty containers to RD$14.00 and increasing the rate for inspecting loaded containers to US$95.00. . .For these agreements, the parties were backed by decrees . . . which were signed by President Mejia.

Cuba-EEUU: The NYT's Elitist Bias Against Menendez
However, The New York Times' problem with Senator Menendez has nothing to do with unsubstantiated ethics allegations, it has to do with its elitist opposition to Menendez's foreign policy views.
Case and point -- the first sentence of the editorial:
"Senator Robert Menendez was never a distinguished choice for chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the position he ascended to this month by virtue of seniority."
For The New York Times, Senator Menendez has never been "distinguished" enough because he doesn't stem from Manhattan's elitist foreign policy community.
You know, from the cocktail party circuit that has endlessly feted the Castros, Arafats and Assads of this world.
Instead, Senator Menendez -- the son of a carpenter and a seamstress that valued their freedom in the U.S. -- has historically challenged the world's most brutal dictators, whether from the left or the right.
He's a tireless champion of human rights defenders and courageous pro-democracy activists -- from Iran to Cuba.
Moreover, he doesn't believe in unilateral concessions to America's foes.
This is a man who has guided three major foreign policy bills on Iran in the last 13 months.
This stands in stark contrast to The New York Times, whose editorial board staunchly advocates for engagement with Iran's mullahs and normalized relations with Cuba's Castro brothers.
Thus, it clearly wants Senator Menendez out of its way.

Carl Sciortino: Marxist Musical Chairs in Massachusetts
Carl Sciortino |
“I am running to continue the strong progressive leadership that the families of the Fifth District have always counted on. I look forward to bringing my record of accomplishment to Washington to fight for our progressive values…I am proud to call Ed Markey my Congressman and I am dedicated to helping elect him as our next U.S. Senator. His record on behalf of Massachusetts families – fighting for jobs, consumers’ rights and a healthier environment— is the kind of leadership Massachusetts needs in the Senate and it is a record I look forward to continuing in Congress.”
Although supporting all of the CC” (Commonwealth Coalition) ”endorsements, Boston DSA has prioritized the campaign of Carl Sciortino for State Representative in Somerville. And in addition to our’ work with the Coalition, DSA is urging a vote for Andrea Cabral for Suffolk County Sheriff and John Kerry for President.
Most notable of the Coalition s winning candidates was Carl Sciortino, who defeated powerful conservative Rep. Vincent Ciampa in the 24th Middlesex district. With the support of many of the member groups of the Coalition, including DSA, Sciortino s campaign was able to overcome a last minute effort to save Ciampa by conservative House Speaker Tom Finneran.”
‘The September 14th State Primaries brought a welcome victory to Boston DSA and Massachusetts progressives. Carl Sciortino , a 26-year-old progressive activist and LGBT-rights advocate, edged out 16-year leadership incumbent Vinnie Ciampa in the Somerville-Medford 34th Middlesex District by 117 votes…Together, we were able to bring down one of Finneran’s staunchest lieutenants.
Carl Sciortino made a perfect champion for this broad progressive alliance. As Research Manager for Fenway Community Health Center, Carl saw the devastating effects of budget cuts on AIDS-prevention work. He became active in the Stop the Cuts Campaign, advocating for progressive tax reforms as the best way to prevent cuts to public health programs, public schools, and local aid. At the same time, he was active with OutSomerville and the Freedom to Marry Coalition.”
In July and August, volunteers streamed in from the Stop the Cuts coalition, the Progressive Democrats of Somerville, Freedom to Marry and other groups. This gave Carl an impressive grassroots army of highly motivated door to- door canvassers and phone callers who contacted voters three to five times each.
”This surprise victory for progressives shows what can be done with clear issues and a strong grassroots campaign. Even more important, it shows the Legislature that progressive taxes and equal marriage rights are not the issues Republicans use against Democrats they re issues the left uses to defeat conservatives! Moral of the story: PINKOS UNITE!“

On the Record: Secretary Kerry on Cuba Policy-Sen. Rubio-Takes Gloves Off
Question from U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.):
Since December 2009, the Cuban government has been holding an American development worker, Alan Gross, hostage for helping the Jewish community in Cuba get uncensored internet access. The UN's Working Group on Arbitrary Detentions has held Gross's imprisonment to be arbitrary. The U.S. should pressure the Cuban government to release Alan Gross. However, the Cuban government should not be rewarded with any unilateral concessions for Gross's imprisonment - whether before or after Gross's release - for this will only endanger American lives in the future and encourage further hostage taking. If confirmed, would you commit not to reward the Cuban government for the arbitrary imprisonment of Americans?
Answer from U.S. Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) :
If confirmed, I will do everything in my power to protect the safety and security of American citizens around the globe, including in Cuba. Alan Gross is a 63-year-old husband, father, and dedicated professional with a long history of providing assistance and support to under-served communities in over 50 countries. His incarceration is unjust and his release is a humanitarian issue. If confirmed, I will continue to use all appropriate diplomatic means to secure Mr. Gross’ release.
Question:
The Agency for International Development's democracy programs are pivotal to helping Cuba's civil society gain access to new technologies, basic support for the marginalized families of political prisoners, training for independent journalists, labor activists and other targeted groups. We have read reports regarding of previous efforts to halt the democracy programs, which are authorized by law. If confirmed, would you continue to support the Cuban democracy programs?
Answer:
If confirmed, I will continue U.S. policies that promote democracy, freedom of expression and assembly, and human rights in Cuba. It is the Administration’s view that we should help those who work for positive change in Cuba, including human rights and pro-democracy activists, independent journalists, and broader civil society. The Cuban democracy programs are one element of the strategy to support these objectives. If confirmed, I will seek ways to increase the independence of the Cuban people so that they may freely determine their own future.
Question:
While State and Treasury have worked with me to streamline procedures to make sure people-to-people programs are truly benefiting the Cuban people, reports of trips being hosted by the government and meeting with the neighborhood watch committees (CDRs), continue to take place. The President's policy states that these programs were designed to foment the Cuban people's "independence" from the regime; but in fact, the itineraries are controlled by the regime on the island.
Would you work to uphold the Administration's original intent of these trips and ensure they are not being used for tourism purposes, which is against US law, or for the benefit of the Cuban government?
Answer:
If confirmed, I will continue to support the Administration’s desire to increase purposeful travel; support private enterprise and civil society in Cuba; enhance free flow of information to, from, and among the Cuban people; and help promote their independence from the Cuban state. In May 2012, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) amended the “Comprehensive Guidelines for License Applications to Engage in Travel-Related Transactions Involving Cuba” to require additional information from people-to-people license applicants, including information on how their proposed travel would enhance contact with the Cuban people and/or support civil society in Cuba and/or help promote the Cuban people’s independence from Cuban authorities. The Administration continues to assess implementing procedures to ensure that benefits to Cuban civil society of U.S. travel outweigh any potential benefits to the Cuban government.
If confirmed, I will ensure that the Department of State continues to work closely with the OFAC and refer to OFAC any potential violations of which the State Department becomes aware.

POWER TO KILL CITIZENS: Senators Threaten Obama Picks Over Drone Concerns
lunes, febrero 04, 2013
Sen. Menendez's case. Why "Peter Williams"?
We posed the concern:
Do we live in an irresponsible new world, where faceless, nameless, anonymous sources can drive mainstream media coverage?
Today, some news organizations -- after hitting a dead-end on these tips -- are finally recognizing that these allegations appear to stem from a political trickster.
Yet, all of these investigative journalists, have missed an obvious clue regarding the political motivations of "Mr. Williams."
Why the pseudonym "Peter Williams"?
Pete Williams, aka Harrison A. Williams, was a former U.S. Senator from New Jersey, who resigned from office in 1982, pursuant to the infamous Abscam scandal.
Looks like they mystery tipster, "Peter Williams," is someone with a keen knowledge of New Jersey politics.
And with a clear political objective in mind.

(el-alto-sueño);
le pidieron las piernas
duras y nudosas

¿No me envidias?”.
